Question about 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

1 Answer

The brake lights do not work on my 2003 Sport Trac. The brake light above the rear window works. I also have a dead battery frequently. I don't know if the problems are related but common sense would say yes. Where whould I look for the short in the brake lights?

If i was suspecting a short i would go for the brake light socket and or assambly first. it is th most common issue. have you check the fuses to if it was blowen out? if it is does it blow the replacement fuse?

also check the trailer harness if equipped because if they are exposed they could be corroded.

If your upper brake light works, and your turn signals work, then its the connector to the multi function switch in the steering column.

Wayne, I would start with the brake wheel sensors, most likely the front end- I would start there first.
Has this vehicle had brake pads replaced, or had recent brake work? If so, what was done, and by who? (home job, or brake shop?)

I have a 2003 ford explorer sport trac. The brake light are not working. The bulbs are fine. The fuses are fine. The 3rd light works. What could be the problem?

it could be the brake light switch, you should find it under the dash around the area of the brake pedal , a wire may have come off or the switch could be loose & needs to be adjusted & tightened up, also check the wiring around the brake lights for any loose or disconnected wires..........hope this helps......cheers.

check the wiring to the rear sockets, including grounds then work your way forward, check the brake light switch then the signal light switch which i figure is bad but no sense replacing till you know everything else is good

Ford sport trac 2003 brake lights are not working and we checked to fuses and changed the lights.

I know this solution will sound weird but put the steering wheel at it's highest position (untilt) and try it..if they come on it's the a wiring harness in the steering column.

2001 ford sports trac brake lights not working ,

This may be a simple fix, where the wheel jack or washer bottle is located in the back behind the panel, there should be connectors for the rear lights, it is possible that the plug has been dislodged, remove the panels and check the plug connections. Good luck.
