Vehicle looses power because EPC light stays on. plugged in diagnostic tool and it gave me multiple fault codes.

If you have "multiple fault codes", then it is likely you have multiple problems. However, without any of those codes, it would be pure guesswork for us to suggest anything.

If it were my car, I would google each code and see what the cause is, and replace what has gone bad. 220k km isn't all that much anymore.

Epc light staying on

The EPC light indicates a problem has occurred in the electronics of the car. What must be done now is to have the dealer scan the systems of the car for the fault code(s) that were stored with the light being turned on by the control module (computer).

It sounds as if your vehicle may have severe water damage to the engine. The engine sensors on the golf are suseptable to water damage and can result in epc light that you are seeing on your dash, or so i was told by VW. I replaced all the sensors, alternator and the computer on my original engine, but this action didnt fix the problem. So i bit the bullet and replaced the engine, and haven't had a problem since. If you do the labor yourself it can be done as cheap as $4000. I hope this helps mate.

good luck
