Question about 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee - 5.9 Litre Won't Start The engine doesn't turn over at all when I turn the key. I replaced the battery (it was bad anyway) - same result. I took off the starter motor and had Checker Auto Parts test it. It tested perfect. I put it back on. I tested the starter relay. It is good. I suspect it is the fusible link to the starter. I don't know which wire this is. How do I determine which is the fusible link and how do I test it? Thanks, - Paul

Thank you. I don't think it's the crank sensor though. I saw on another site that someone said it was the Neutral Sensor (or something like that). They suggested actuating the solenoid manually and the car started. They suggested starting the car in Neutral instead of Park. It started again.

1998 jeep grand cherokee have to wait for check engine light to come on before I can turn it over and start it.

That could be telling you the engine computer is not getting power when you turn the key on. Have you tested the asd relay ?

My 1998 jeep cheorkee engine turns but won't crank, could it be the computer or what?

it's highly unlikely, there are only two things that can make this happen, not getting fuel (fuel pump failure, fuel pump regulator) or not getting ignition (bad coils, ignition module failure, bad distributor, distributor cap, rotor)

My truck wont start. I changed the battery and fuel pump. what could be the problem

Check your fuel pump relay in the fuse box under the hood located next to your battery. same thing happened to my 98 grand Cherokee. if you turn on the key and you don't hear your fuel pump then the relay is bad and needs replacing.

95 grand cherokee no start, it turns over but won;t start, trying to find the pcm connector pin out diagram

If you don't have a check engine light that lights up on the dash when you turn your ignition key to on, then your ecu has gone bad, internally.

Having trouble with 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited not starting when the key is turned. It clicks but does not fire. It takes several tries to get the engine to start.

Three items to check there. Make sure the battery terminals are clean and secure, check the starter relay (quick way is to steal another in the power center and switch them). Also check the engine grounds and that the starter solenoid is engaging. If you have power at the small terminal on the starter when the key is turned to start, good bet the starter is bad.

Does it turn over? If not, try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it. This has worked for my Jeep before.

Jeep wont start engine turns over but saying no key

this could be a bad fuse, or check all your wire harness's especially the one connected underneath your fuse box and also the fuses
