Pull the plastic cover off the top of the engine and check where the cable from the cruise control connects by the throttle body. There is a plastic connector that might be broken. i had the same problem and a piece of tape fixed it for me but you can replace the part if your picky.

Cruise control notworking on a 2002 F150

cruise controls are controlled by the following switches and sensors
1 the switch itself
2-- the clutch pedal sensor or the VSS in the auto transmission
3 the brake sensor ---4-- the gear change switch or selector
5-- the engine speed sensor ( tacho)
6-- the road speed (VSS )
if 1 or a combination is not working or is outside parameters , the cruise control will not switch on
the road speed in a manual is set at around 20 mph and any less will not engage cruise control(CC)
changing gears in a manual will disengage CC
touching the clutch pedal will not allow engagement or will disengage CC
for some sensors run the fault codes

The cruise control stopped working on my 2002 ford escape.any ideas?

Before over thinking this have you checked under the hood to verify the cable is still connected. you will have to remove the engine cover (8mm socket). On top of the engine should be two cables that run to your throttle. Over time the cruise control cable snaps can fail and the cable will come loose. A cheap simple fix is cable ties if this keeps happening.

Faulty Deactivation Switch for Cruise Control

No coincidence Pal. That cutout switch is part of the brake light switch and is easy to replace. It just screws into a bracket at the brake pedal lever and has a jamb nut on it to lock in position. Just get one from a parts store and replace it yourself.

Cruise control ford escape 2002. ford escape

If the cruise lamp comes on and the cruise does not set i would advise inspecting the cruise cable and make certain it is not broken, if ok the the servo has likely failed.

Check the speed control deactivation switch on the master cylinder. disconnect and use a jumper wire to connect the wires together. If the cruise works it's the switch.

Cruise control quit working

The tip that connects the accelerator cable to your throttle for the cruise control may be broken. I have had that problem before. The light won't come on cause your cruise isn't engaged

How to set cruise control

cruise control on your escape will work at 30 mph and up. Press 'on 'button, then press gas pedal 'til u reach desired speed, press 'set acc' and you'll be cruisen. You can also do it this way, press 'on' button, then press and hold 'set/acc' button, car will accelerate, let go of button when u reach desired speed. Putting on brakes will deactivate cruise, u can then press 'RSM' to resume speed.

Cruise control won't work

Does the on light in the dash come on? If not, you may have a broken switch in the steering wheel which is a fairly cheap repair. Otherwise, the controls work through the Printed Circuit Board in your dash (your instrument cluster) and the problem could be as simple as a solder defect or faulty component. The problem is that no Ford Service Technician that I know will touch this and tell you that you need to replace it.

The instrument cluster is very easy to replace but may cost you a few more dollars than you want to spend. I would have someone with an electrical background check the cruise control switches in your steering wheel with a multimeter before going any further with this. Also check the wiring for resistance leading from the switch to the cluster.
