Question about 1991 Honda Accord

1991 Honda Accord won't start

1991 Accord won't start, turns over very well, checked main relay, replaced and no difference, checked computor tried another, no difference, changed injector relay, no difference, fuel pump fonctions, opened gas cap for pressure, no difference, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NOR OIL LIGHT WHEN THE KEY IS TURNED ON, ONLY BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON; head lights, flasher lights, brake lights, radio, moon roof..all function but not the power windows, no fuses blown; smell a little gas when turning motor, did start for a few seconds after much starting but did not run well at all and died right away, hasn't even done that a second time. Haven't touched the distributor because it was replaced only a couple of years ago. The tachometer doesn't move when I'm turning over the engine. I can't remember if the tach would move upon turning the starter or not before my problem. I read that the igniter may be the problem. An indicator being that if the tach doesn't move,...the igniter is no good. Is that possible ? Where is the igniter the distributor ? I like my Honda, I want it to go.

Could be the igniter inside the distributor (unless you have an external coil). Look on your distributor to see if there are 5 wires leading from it. If there are, you have an external coil that is likely bad... If you have only 4 wires coming from your distributor it is most likely the internal ignition inside the distributor ($50.+). AS SOON AS YOU GET IT STARTED CHANGE YOUR OIL. Your fuel pump has loaded your cylinders with fuel and it has probably leaked down into your oil pan making your oil thin and mixed with gas.

I need the igniter location on my 1991 honda accord lx

Igniter and cam sensor are located inside the distributor, If the coil is at fault it may be a good idea to inspect the wiring/contacts as well as replace the housing body gasket to prevent water intrusion. Main relay is dash is a common no start problem, when it fails there is no power to the ecu.

1991 Honda Accord cranks but will not start

I think you should check the air filter or air intake. It seems like it's not gettin and air to start since when you spray the starting fluid it's runs but stop and it stalls. I think that it's the air supply for the car.

Car wont start

I had a problem with a 1991 Honda Accord and the fix was a weird one. My car would run fine and start fine if it was cold outside. If I left my car in the sun and the interior got hot, my car wouldn't start.

(Since you drove to San Diego this may be the problem)

I found out that if I left my windows open and let the inside of the car cool down, it would start. Strange.....

Apparently, there is a main relay box under the steering wheel that triggers the starter motor and fuel injection. In the Honda's made around 1991, the contacts in that box would expand and would not let the electricity flow.

I guess you can repair the relay box, but replacing it might be a better bet ($50). I took my car to three different mechanics before any of them had heard of this problem.

The fix was simple, but the problem was hard to diagnose.
