hi, the shop has yet to respond.. The cars check engine light came on and the rpms race between first and second (auto). Other than that the car seems to drive fine.

Ok, so for the most part the transmission codes are pretty much valid...the other ones related to evap system generally don't cause drivability problems so they are likely to be valid as well. Codes only tell you what systems to look at so likely the shop is now investigating further to pinpoint the actual problem(s). Now, if only the repairs could be less expensive....Well, you can dream, right?

My often incorrect code book shows that some of those codes are related to transmission problem, others in the evap system (vapor control). What is the vehicle doing and what did a shop tell you?

95 sl500 check engine light reset and comes back on after it sits over night. any idea?

What code is it throwing ? Some codes are what are called two trip codes ! You clear the codes an start an drive the vehicle ,no check engine light . Park the vehicle over night an bam next time you start an drive the vehicle the check engine light comes back on .

??There are two types of DTC's, 1 trip DTC's and 2

trip DTC's

??A 1 trip DTC is for a condition that requires

immediate attention such as a catalyst damaging

misfire.

??A 2 Trip DTC is one that a condition must be found

during 2 consecutive trips such as an EGR fault.

??Most Monitors do not set a DTC and light the MIL

when a vehicle fails a test for the first time during a

DRIVE CYCLE. If a test is failed on a second

consecutive DRIVE CYCLE the MIL will light and a

DTC is stored in the vehicles powertrain control
module (PCM).

2008 jeep cherokee hemi engine light its on i brought to fix it and they change 4 sensor and the cadilac converter.

You need to have PCM / ECM - engine computer checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes an go from there ! there are hundreds of codes these newer vehicles can set ! I hope these people who changed the sensors an catalytic converter checked codes first ! You never ever just replace parts !!!!!!!! A DTC will lead in a diagnostic direction ! What is service engine light code 12 mean

READING CODES USING MIL (CHECK ENGINE) LAMP

Be advised that the MIL or CHECK ENGINE light can only perform a limited number of functions and it is a good idea to have the system checked with a scan tool to double check the circuit function.

  1. Within a period of 5 seconds, cycle the ignition key ON - OFF - ON - OFF - ON .
  2. Count the number of times the MIL (check engine lamp) on the instrument panel flashes on and off.

The number of flashes represents the trouble code. There is a short pause between the flashes representing the 1st and 2nd digits of the code. Longer pauses are used to separate individual 2-digit trouble codes.
An example of a flashed DTC is as follows:

Lamp flashes 4 times, pauses, then flashes 6 more times. This denotes a DTC number 46. Lamp flashes 5 times, pauses, then flashes 5 more times. This indicates a DTC number 55. DTC 55 will always be the last code to be displayed.

Service Engine light, ABS light, and Traction light keep coming on and will not clear

The electronic brake control module (EBCM) automatically clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

My epc and engine light came on and won't star in a 2006 2.0t passat any ideas

First of all you need to access the Engine Control Module (ECM) using suitable diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all DTC's memored. DTC = Diagnostic Trouble Code. Then you will bu full informed about the root cause of the problem, and you will be able to repair & replace bad pieces and reset the ECM. Then the EPC (Electronic Pedal Control) yellow light will turn OFF.

My engine light came on yet all gauges are mid range. full of oil. alternator fine Temp ok, starts runs fine. Any ideas?

You could find out what DTC (or diagnostic trouble code) resides in your car's computer by having the code(s) read with a code reader. Most auto parts stores will do this for free. The whole self diagnostic check engine light system was designed to help you get things fixed at an early stage before you start to have engine problems that affect drivability, gas mileage, and especially emissions.

did you do the pin point testes? a fault code only tell s the sensor signal has a problem, that can be the actual sensor or the connector, or the wiring or the powertrain control module, with this sesor you can also hook the hoses up wrong and excessive exhaust back pressure can cause this as well.
