P0410 is Secondary Air INjection System Malfunction.
I quote from OBD-codes.com:
"The P0410 code refers to the emissions system.
The AIR pump puts air to the exhaust to lower emissions. It takes in outside air and pumps it through two one-way check valves into each bank of the exhaust.
About 90% of the time that this code is set, the one-way check valves have worn out or failed and allow water (which occurs naturally in the exhaust) back into the pump. ..

Possibly symptoms include:

  • MIL illumination obviously
  • Hesitation on acceleration
  • Noise from a bad/stuck AIR pump
A code P0410 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Water may have collected in the AIR pump or the vent solenoid and frozen or corroded the pump
  • Blown AIR pump fuse due to freezing up

Replace the AIR pump AND one-way check valve
Test and clean the AIR pump AND test and replace the one-way air check valve
Replace the AIR pump inlet hose
Replace the AIR pump fuse (found under the hood)"

The air injection system is not working as it should, and this can affect the vacuum system and also whole electronic injection, particularly when idling, when vacuum makes a bigger difference.
Either the pump inlet hose is internally obstructed, or the pump is defective.
This code is usually fixed inspecting the lines for leaks or blockage, cleaning or replacing the pump

Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction

The P0410 code refers to the emissions system.

In any cold climate, especially in climates with higher humidity, this water may be more excessive. The water partially fills the AIR pump, it can then freeze. When the PCM commands the pump on, if the pump is frozen it cannot turn, thus overloading the circuit and "popping" the fuse.

Symptoms Possibly include:

MIL illumination obviously
Hesitation on acceleration
Noise from a bad/stuck AIR pump

A code P0410 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

Water may have collected in the AIR pump or the vent solenoid and frozen or corroded the pump

Blown AIR pump fuse due to freezing up

Possible SolutionsNote: There is a technical service bulletin (TSB) regarding this code for a number of GM models. The TSB calls for the replacement of the AIR pump and the installation of a new secondary injection hose.

Additionally, if you simply replace the AIR pump the problem may return again (and again). If you replace the pump, also clean out the hoses and replace the one-way check valve. In a few cases, people have put a small hole in the rubber cover on the pump which allows any water to drain out.

Also, please note that this may be covered under the emissions warranty on the vehicle. If your vehicle is out of bumper-to-bumper warranty, check if the emissions warranty is still valid!

Replace the AIR pump AND one-way check valve
Test and clean the AIR pump AND test and replace the one-way air check valve
Replace the AIR pump inlet hose
Replace the AIR pump fuse (found under the hood)

I have 03 blazer LS it starts up then idle goes down it turns off

Could be the Idle Air Control valve, or the Throttle Position sensor. If either of these fail, the computer cannot regulate the idle correctly and the vehicle will usually shut off.

I have a 95 Toyota Camry starts but dies when put into gear...changed lots of parts almost 600 $ worth..been to several auto repair shops with no luck! Someone help!!!

There is a control unit on most auto's that raises the idle speed when pulled into drive. This prevents stalling. Try and get a manual or mechanic familiar with a range of autos to see what the Toy uses. The 95 Camry is the one with the runaway cruise control by the way!

89 cutlass cierra crank but wont start when wet out unless gas pedal is pushed

This should be a drive by wire vehicle meaning it has a cable for the throttle body. First thing would be to see if any error codes can be pulled up (most parts stores will do that for free.) Drive by wire versus the late model that use electronic control for the idle have a IAC or idle air control which when first started controls the idle air intake--all air is run by it to idle the vehicle when cold--

Usual symptoms are rather high idle when cold engine or even idle and RPM jumping up and down and stalling when cold.

Another way if idle does drop when cold is tapping the gas--engine will still run until hot. Means not usually a fuel pump issue.

You could also have if the vehicle is fuel injected a dirty Mass air flow sensor, a throttle position sensor, etc.

These can be if the vehicle has them cleaned using a special zero residue spray cleaner.

First have it scanned to see what if any errors it shows--the computer.

I turn on ignition and vehicle starts to idle real high seems like accelarator cable is sticking

Hi Clucas, If you're talking about a cold engine, the vehicle is fitted with an automatic 'up idle' system. Depending on how cold the ambient temperature is. The colder it is outside the higher the idle, until the engine reaches normal operating temp. The engine should then settle down to the correct idle speed. If however the cold start raises the speed to more than 1350, have a scan carried out. If the idle speed is always at a high rpm, do the same.A leakage of air into the intake manifold can also cause the latter problem. A leakage however will not be evident via a scan. Suspect idle control motor, although mass air flow sensor problems have sometimes been related to idle surge. Have pcm codes pulled for further diagnosis.

99 jeep wrangler 4.0 backfires and hesitates

Fairly common problem. Typical scenario is start vehicle, runs fine for 15 to 30 seconds and begins to backfire when placed under load as customer tries to drive vehicle. Flooring usually makes the problem go away. Usually does not throw a code.

Fix is to replace the upstream 02 sensor.
