The coolant fans on my car are not staying on to cool the engine

The coolant fans on my car are not staying on to keep the engine cool. The primary fan is only blowing when it wants to and the secondary fan is only blowing when I give it a boost. What could be the problem and how can I fix it?

The brushes get worn down on these motors. Your "give it a boost" description leads me to believe this is your problem. You can replace the brushes without buying new motors if you find a place to buy them.

My Nissan urban keeps overheating after it got overheated what could be the cause

Cooling fans not turning on, check to make sure the cooling fans are running when overheating occurs. Not enough coolant in the cooling system, check the coolant reservoir make sure the coolant is at at the maximum level when combustion engine is completely cool,if your coolant is low add coolant to the maximum level. (1)Start combustion engine, let it warm up but not over heat. Turn off combustion engine, when it cools completely the coolant reservoirs level will be lower . Add more coolant and keep repeating (1) until the coolant level stays the same after combustion engine completely cools down.Sensor that tells the cooling fans to turn on defective. Non functioning thermostat. Broken impeller inside Water Pump. Clogged radiator. Clogged water jackets in combustion engine. Broken drive belt. Radiator has something blocking the cooling fins(possibly a plastic bag that went against the cooling fins when driving)

Fan motor for cooling radiator keeps running after shut vehicle off, I tap on fuse box on right front of engine, what is wrong?

If the coolant temp is hot the fan will keep running till cools , if it stays on after this the censor may be at fault.

How long do the cooling fans stay on after car is shut down

The coolant fan temperature sensor detects the coolant is still hot, and keeps the fans on. And remains on until engine cools down. Check the coolant when cold for proper coolant level. If fans stay on all the time, check the coolant fan relay. Good-Day! . It will happen more in warm weather than in the cooler months.

1995 Buick Century 3.1 V6, I am not getting the "switched" negative (-/0) VDC out of the ECM to turn on the cooling fans. Is this a "common" on the ECM board or is there an individual source/ supply wire I...

The cooling fan circuit receives power through fusible link F and the 10A engine/AC in line fuse. Input from the engine coolant temperature sensor is applied to the PCM which, in turn, closes the primary and pusher coolant fan relays to turn on the coolant fans.

2000 triumph tt600 radiator cooling fan doesn't come on I've tested the fan and it works , all the wires to the fan look ok anyone any ideas

Yes, the thermostat. I don't know exactly where yours is - but the thermostat is usually on the engine near a radiator hose. When cool, it stays closed to heat the coolant in the engine block and keeping hot coolant in the radiator to be cooled. Once the engine has heated the coolant to 185 ~ 200 degrees, the thermostat opens and allows the hot coolant from the engine to enter the radiator - which forces the colder coolant out and into the engine block - to keep it from over heating.

Your thermostat may be stuck - keeping it from opening / opening fully. You can test it be removing it and dropping it into a pot of boiling water on your stove - it should open in water that hot.

Do not work on the thermostat, radiator or coolant while the engine is hot. Opening the cooling system may result in spilling coolant and making a mess if you are unprepared for it.

1986 Mazda 323 coolant fan comes on when motor is hot and stays on.

Is the engine actually cooling off? If the temp switch isn't seeing a drop in temperature, it will keep the fan running.

My raditor fan stays on in my 1997 town and country

cooling fans stay on, engine could be overheating, faulty cooling fan relay or pcm could be faulty.best get vechicle code scan before spending too much money you need scan to see what engine coolant temperature is,scanner can tell you if engine getting too hot could have partially closed thermostat, clogged radiator cores clogged engine block coolant passages clogged also the heater core, if engine not overheating the code scanner will tell you if you have faulty cooling fans relay or pcm failure.

IT KEEPS OVERHEATING

REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.IF COOLANT LOW, ADD MORE COOLANT THROUGH COOLANT OVERFLOW UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL IN THE COOLANT OVERFLOW STAY AT FULL COLD MARK.REASON POUR COOLANT THROUGH COOLANT OVERFLOW MOST GM CARS DONT HAVE RADIATOR CAP.WHEN YOU GET COOLANT LEVEL OKAY, CRANK CAR LET IT IDLE UNTIL ENGINE GET HOT BUILD UP PRESSURE THEN TURN OFF CAR.CHECK FOR COOLANTS LEAKS AT THE RADIATOR HOSES,CHECK FOR LEAKS AT THE RADIATOR, CHECK FOR LEAKS AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE IF YOU SEE COOLANT LEAKING FROM WEEP HOLE REPLACE WATER PUMP. IF CAR OVERHEATING WHILE IDLING YOUR COOLING FANS NOT WORKING CHECK COOLING FANS FUSE AND RELAYS.IF FUSE AND RELAYS OKAY THE ENGINECOOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR BAD.

SOUND LIKE ENGINE OVERHEATING,CHECK COOLANT LEVEL MAKE SURE YOUR RADIATOR FULL OF ANTIFREEZE.IF YOUR COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG IS EMPTY COOLANT LEVEL IS LOW.NEED ADD MORE COOLANT TO OVERFLOW UNTIL COOLANT STAY AT FULL COLD MARK. DONT OVER FILL COOLANT OVER FLOW JUG.IF COOLANT OKAY ENGINE OVERHEATING REPLACE THERMOSTAT.MAKE SURE ENGINE COOLING FAN IS WORKING IF YOU COME TO A STOP CAR SITS FOR A LITTLE WHILE START OVERHEATING THE COOLING FAN NOT TURNING ON , BECAUSE COOLANT FAN FUSE BLOWED OR YOU HAVE BAD RELAY,THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FAULTY.IF YOU HAVE THE CLUTCH TYPE COOLING FAN, MAKE SURE WHEN TURNING CLUTCH FAN WITH HAND COOLING FAN SHOULD HAVE RESISTANCE WHEN HOT.IF CLUTCH FAN FEEL WOBBLY AND LOOSE REPLACE IT.TAKE VECHICLE TO AUTO ZONE OR ADVANCE AUTO PARTS OR ANY AUTO PARTS STORES THEY WILL CODE SCAN CAR FREE AND GIVE YOU THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TROUBLE CODE TO SEE WHAT CAUSING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO TURN ON.

Fan relay not working , fan keeps going on and off wont stay running

One of your fans works off the coolant temperature sensors input and will only engage when the coolant temperature reaches and/or exceeds a certain preset degree. The other runs off of your a/c compressor and when it engages so will the auxiliary or secondary cooling fan. Start the engine cold, turn on the a/c and listen for the secondary fan to engage then as it warms up listen to see if the primary fan engages. when it reaches running temperature. Please rate me on this answer.
