If you hear no ticking or knocking from the engine , likely the condition isn't serious yet. But, it needs to be checked out immediately before it does.
I would either replace the oil pressure sending unit or have a mechanical gauge (yours is electro-mechanical) temporarily installed to read the actual pressure. If it is in fact low you need to find the cause and correct it.
Oil pumps rarely fail but the pickup screen on the pump can become obstructed, bearings (both crank and rod) often wear, and most times rod bearing change will help. Your actual oil pressure should be about 40 running warm and about 60 cold. On some engines you can "get away with" pressures as low as 15psi but no manufacturer builds them to run at those low numbers. If oil pressure was not that critical, race engine builders would not make any effort to boost it, as higher pressure pumps steal horsepower, yet many race engines run pressures in the 150-200psi range.(you can't do that or your filter would explode).
Chances are, you only need a sending unit replacement, but don't ignore the problem as it's cheaper to do the repair now than to replace the engine.
Good luck!

Can be a numerous issue with service engine light, the best way to narrow it down is stop by auto zone and plug it to the computer and see what code it spit out, this is the best avenue instead guessing and replacing parts what does not need replacing, can get very expensive. this way it will help narrow down the problems. oil gauge is low, making sure you have proper amount of oil in the car with recommended weight, next, go ahead replace oil pressure switch, can be faulty/ fairly cheap to replace. if the switch is good you may have problems with the oil pump, worn-ed pump which not pumping enough pressure, this can lead to engine catastrophe; pump will need replacing.

What is causing my 96 Chevy Blazer 4.3 to read low oil pressure at an idle? Oil is full, and check gauge light comes on when the oil pressure gauge shows low.

Hmmmm
20 years old.
Could be it's just getting tired, as in worn components.
As long as you're getting adequate pressure at operating RPM it should not be a major concern.
If you're not using 15W 40 I would suggest doing so.
Cheers.

High temp low oil pressure light comes on after driving for a few minutes, then off when engine at driving rpm. At stop light (idle or low rpm) light comes back on. Normal driving it goes out.

You need to find out why you have low oil pressure. It is normal that as engine rpm's increase, the oil pressure will rise- the oil pump is moving oil faster. Even though your light goes out, you could still have critically low oil pressure. There should be sufficient pressure at idle to keep the light off. The light will come on when your oil pressure is almost nil- I believe for some it's as low as 8 psi. Normally, oil pressure at idle is specified anywhere from 15 to 40 psi. You would have to check specifications for your Expedition. To verify oil pressure, hook up a mechanical gauge at the oil pressure sending unit on the engine block. Check with a local shop.

The causes run from easy, simple to budget busting ruin. Low oil level, wrong grade oil, real old oil, oil leaks, internal oil leaks, worn oil pump, worn crankshaft bearings. It was pretty common on older very high mileage cars to have a fluttering oil light at stops and idle. It was time for a rebuild, or time to look for another car.

Oil light on after engine warm-up on idle

this means a mechanical gauge test is required to check actual pressure warm idling if low below 20 psi then the oil pressure pump relief is stuck open or engine bearing are worn

When stopped at lights oil light flashes.. My oil level is fine. What could it be?

this is a common sign of a bad oil pressure sender, but could also be caused by low oil pressure, a sender is cheap, but it"s always smart to do a pressure test first with a mechanical gauge, you can obtain a mechanical gauge from most automotive parts stores. then you"ll have to locate and remove the oil pressure sender and install the gauge you bought. make your test at warm idle you should have at least 25 psi below that you may very possible have worn engine bearings making it impossible for the engine to have any better oil pressure at idle. if you have 25 or greater psi of pressure at idle replace your oil sender and you"ll be back on the road

Check oil light comes on at a stop and while idling

this is a light that indicates low oil pressure or low level, 1st check the oil level in the engine when it is hot, if that is ok you will need to have the oil oil pressure tested with a specail mechanical test gauge, don't wait on this, low engine oil pressure or level can quickly lead to engine failure, have a shop check this ASAP if level is ok and light still comes on.

Check gauges

The "Check Gauges" light comes on when a reading from one of the sensors which controls the gauge cluster is out of spec, in other words, it should be accompanied by a low/high engine temperature, a low fuel warning, an oil pressure light, a coolant level light, or something similar.

If none of the other gauges show a problem while the "Check Gauges" light is illuminated, there may be an electrical fault which requires further diagnosis.

Oil pressure gauge goes to 0 when idled, but goes

You could try thicker oil or stop using synthetic or add some lucas oil treatment or change the oil. The sender could be bad too. A diag is in order because if there is no presure the engine will soon die.

What is the check gauges light

CHECK GAGES light (1) indicates a potential engine failure(low oil pressure, low coolant, coolant overheating) has occurred.
· Check gages and shut down engine. Gages should read as follows: Oil pressure 5 to 10 psi (34 to 69 kPa) at idle; Water Temp gage below 230 degrees (110 C).
· Check engine oil level (Para 2-11) if OIL PRESS gage indicates low reading. Check coolant level (Para 2-11) if Water Temp gage indicates high reading. Notify Unit Maintenance if levels are low.

If CHECK ENGINE light (2) is on, check engine oil pressure gage (3) and water temperature gage (4). If both indicate normal, proceed with mission and then notify Unit Maintenance. If either one does not indicate normal, stop engine immediately and notify Unit Maintenance
