check to make sure manual shift linkage not loose disconnected or damaged.check transmission fluid also see if too low, transmission could be slipping lack or low on fluid,if all is good have transmission range sensor checked have vechicle code scan see if any shift pressure solenoid bad before assuming transmission has failed. if you buy second hand car taking a chance buying a lemon, if you just bought the car have honest mechanic check out transmission if bad owner sold car to you didnt tell you transmission bad i get refund find another car.

91 accord shifts hard

You have transmission issues, the first thing to do is have the fluid changed in the transmission to see if that improves the hard shifting and then go from there.

Just recently a light in the shape of a straigt ahead arrow appears in the right dash, just in gear positions 1-4, not 5. Is this a shift light that has just started appearing?

im assuming this is a five speed manual transmission. In this case,YES this is a shift light, this light is supposed to appear when you should shift the car,its supposed to help with gas mileage, and engine performance when you shift at the indicated point.Does it really make that much of a difference? NO. You usually can tell just by listening to your motor, to know the proper time to shift. I had one of these too! More annoying than anything! Dale

When in automatic drive, the engine revs up and appears to be havinng problems shifting into higher gears. While this is happening, the brakes seem hypersensitive. This just started happening and the...

I had a similar problem on my vw jetta. Check your vacuum modulator line. It is a black line that is about 8 inches long and 5/32 in diameter (about the size of a pencil) connecting the intake manifold to the modulator. Overtime this line cracks and does not efficiently provide the correct vacuum for the modulator which senses throttle position which tells the transmission when to shift. Your transmission will stay in gear simply because it thinks the engine is not producing enough power. This line is 95 cents to replace and can be bought at any auto store. Check this line and system before they mess with transmission fluid etc.

Wont shift all the time sometimes it just wont change into gears then all of a sudden it does., transmission shhop advised to change filter and fluid what is the process

remove the pan on bottom of transmission drain fluid...remove filter,, easy to locate by looking at the new one you bought....reinstall pan and fill with transmission fluid.....you can try this step...if still accurs.. need to have someone scan the transmission module.. alot of scanners only scan engine computer.. make sure to scan transmission module.. if no codes be very weiry about transmission failure that line of cars has a very bad reputation for bad tranny

I have a 2002 kia sedona and occacionly the car jumps while i am driving and then runs very rough...I have learned that when i shut the car off and turn it back on it seems to run normal again

Sounds like either an input or an output shaft speed sensor. In a nut shell, the transmission's shifting is controlled electronically; at a stop or very slow speed, the transmission is automatically in first gear...when these sensors 'sense' that the vehicle is travelling at a certain speed, it tells the transmission to shift into second. At the next specified speed, it shifts into third; etc. etc. What it sounds like is that one of these sensors is going bad, telling the transmission to downshift, but the other sensor is fighting that command and causing the vehicle to 'act' like it's running rough, when in reality it's probably just the transmission rapidly jumping between gears. These sensors aren't particularly cheap, but are pretty easy to replace. Start by finding a shop that will plug in a code reader for you (or do it yourself if you have one). You're looking for a code in the range of 0715 to 0723. If it reads 0715 to 0718, that's the input side. 0720 to 0723 is the output side. Good luck.

Hard Shift to 2nd Gear/next gear

Your going to have to get your car scaned for codes. Auto Zone can scan it for you for free and tell your what you'll need to fix it.
It sound's like your VSS Sensor (speed sensor) is not working and your ECM is not getting the signal from the transmission to know when to shift the gears.
Becareful not to burn out the transmission till you get it fixed. The sensor it self is not that expansive and to replace it is easy and takes about 30 min to do.
If you get a P0720 or a P0722 code, then it's your speed sensor. It's an esy fix and Auto Zone can give you instrction on how to change it.
Good luck, it takes about 30 min to change and hope this helps.
