Way too many possibilities, but here it goes:
First, the dredded check engine system generally monitors the emissions sensors, and probably safe to drive (maybe even ignore light).
While driving, do you notice anything different:
Running hotter or overheat, misfire, engine dies for no reason while idling, or driving?
Filled-up fuel from new brand/station, etc.
blah, blah, blah,
Gas cap loose or lost?
How far away is an AutoZone? They provide a free analysis and provide the "code" and printed "most likely" problem.
Could just be a bad sensor and nothing wrong with anything.

You could have a misfire ! ignition system problem . Is the vehicles check engine light on steady of flashing ? I suggest you take it an have it checked out . If it gets bad enough it could damage the catalytic converter , an that could cost up to a thousand bucks !

Service light soon blinking

the SES lamp (aka. CEL and MIL)
means Scan it,
is this a USA car? or canada.
how you scan CARs varies by COUNTRY , unstated.
In the usa, this car has 2 engines.
1.6L and 1.8L, the latter is DOHC sport.
but in both cases here, all scan tools work , this old.
  1. all autoshops can scan it.(some free)
  2. all autostores (most) can scan it. free.
  3. many outstores here can loan you the scan tool. OBD2.
  4. you can buy a tool for $9 (ask) off fleabay.
  5. or buy the code reader, for $20 off Amazon.
true for all cars USA, and 1998 and newer in Canada.
my guess is said tool will throw DTC P0400 or more.

the 1.6L G16B engine loves to die.
it loves to have the main EGR valve stick, 1000s seen.
we clean it until its Snappy, and stalls end.

the valve is way far behind the intake manifold on the #4 intake runner.
and dont stap the bolts, ask how not to.....

Car chugging

which car? name it and year, all cars vary by year, make and model
and by country, in fact, vastly so.
does it do this hot and cold (engine temp)
does the engine reach and hold at 180 to 200F temperature>?

this is called surging.
is the idle steady, at 800 RPM hot engine?
ever tune up the car,? (called maintenance service points now)

My service engine soon light is on. i had my oil changed recently but it was on before i had that done. i have to get my state inspection and need it off. how do i reset it?

the service engine soon light is not for the oil or anything like it, it is warning u that the electronic engine control system has a fault present, there are about 200 poss reasons so you will need to get the system teasted, Kragen and Autozone both do this test for free, just ask for a OBD 2 fault code test, don't listen to the suggestions of what is wrong, they are not trained in this and often you end up buying parts that don't fix the problem, seek a Ford dealer out or other trained electronic engine control tech for assistance in fixing the problem, u may also post the codes on this site, I suggest u use live chat for the best and most accurate answer.

Check engine light comes on after last 3 visits to the dealer.

I'm not questioning the integrity of your dealer, but why not get a second opinion? I would take the car to an autoparts store and have them read the codes stored in the computer. Most parts stores will do the scan for free and will reset the check engine light if there are no faults noted. See what fault codes their scan comes up with based on the dealer findings. There's no such thing as too much information. Hope this helped and best wishes.

'07 Tahoe; check engine light on steady. Just came

Have a dealer or garage check your Oxygen (O2) sensor. As a quick fix, try disconnecting and reconnecting your car battery. Sometimes this will reset the check engine light.Good Luck!

Engine lacks power

the probes use the mazda motor.... the engine light is caused by a lean fuel mixture...this happens on almost every american motor..its the ecu tuning. this is a way for the a-spec motor to have less horsepower, but they detuned too far. if you replace the ecu with the j-spec one you will not have the light, and gain somewhere around 15 hp im not sure how much or how dramatic the losing power thing is but i do know that the 2.5l motors love LOVE the rpms... so 3,000 rpm is really where the motor starts to run good, other than that im not sure

Dont be worried at all. The battery temp sensor isnt very important, most cars dont even have them. The only thing is you will have that light on. Good luck!!
