If you don't have the trunk key, use the trunk release button in the glove compartment. If you do have the key, you must turn it all the way to the left and then press the button. It should open then. Turn it back to midway and it will stay unlocked.

BOOT OPEN but not open warning light on dashboard say this with red warning light

The sensor is located and probably built into the boot latch. The sensor is good because the light goes off if you close it slowly. the latch is just worn out with that particular part. Replace the latch. It is not hard to replace if you have a few hand tools.

I have a 91 Plymouth Van, and I was rear ended, and now my tailgate won't open. Even the button on the dash will not open it . It doesn't even click.

My understanding of a rear end smash is the that the boot lid gets jammed on the latch and nothing will get it open. It is possible that the wires have been cut and blew a fuse when you pressed the button. Normally the panel shop will replace the lid as it is normally necessary to cut the lock out to get inside to remove the hinges.

What does boot open on a 2004 Jaguar x type mean

Hi, It means that the car thinks that the boot (trunk) is open. Either the switch is broken or the latch hasn't closed properly.......Mike

The "Boot Open" message is displayed o my dash. The trunk lid is closed. The only way to open the trunk is with the key. The Key fob does not work nor do the switches inside the car or in the trunk lid...

Somethings for you to check......

If you open the boot and close the
boot latch (in the middle of the boot lid)with a screwdriver or
something does the boot light go off when you press the little
plunger for the boot light?
If it does not it may be the boot latch. It's also worth checking the
wiring loom on the right of the boot by keeping the boot plunger
pushed in with the boot latch closed as above and squeezing the
wiring loom in various places to see if the light goes off as it may be a damaged wire in the loom......

Also the plastic trim piece on the rear lower end of the
trunk (boot) is loose, the light comes on. It is held by 4 plastic
pins. When in place properly, no light, when loose, trunk open
light is on, even when trunk is secured.

Good luck

The trunk latch inside the car will not open the trunk .

hi there either the wire that runs down under the carpet through to the boot latch is not tight enough or has snapped or it is not connect to the latch in the boot and has come off it should have a liitle bull bearing at the boot end and will click on to the latch at the top of the boot where the latch is
