1993 Chevrolet Truck C2500 3/4ton P/U 2WD 6.5L Turbo Diesel 8cyl

The coolant temperature sensor is located u Under hood, center, upper engine area, passenger side of water outlet, mounted in intake manifold.

Note...it will have a egg shaped connector and two wires. You are looking for the sender, which I am not relatively sure is in the left head, near the #1 spark plug, but I am not certain.

If there is just one wire, unhook it from the sender, and when it is held against ground, the gauge should go to one end, and to the other when unhooked.

I need the easiest possible directions to replace the coolant temperature sensor in my 1999 Chevy Lumina ltz 3.8 v6 car please.


The coolant sensor temperature is usually found just beneath the cylinder head, on the engine block.

You just disconnect the 1-2 wires and then undo it with a wrench.
The sensor will look like one of these:

Just be aware .. you may have TWO such sensors on your vehicle.

One sensor (usually with 3-4 electrical pins) is near the thermostat and works in conjunction with other sensors to regulate fuel/air according to engine temperature.

The other type of sensor is in the block near the cylinder head. It sends a signal to the temperature gauge on your dashboard ONLY. If your temp gauge constantly reads too hot or too cold .. this one is the culprit.25939754-r0ibht2u2t2rhetbyfvb2pry-5-0.jpg

Your problem could be the alternator or voltage rectifier.
Some alternators have the voltage rectifier built in and some have them on the fire wall (under of the hood of the car)

On my 2003 Dodge Neon SXT I need help with a couple of things. (1) I need someone to send me a diagram showing exactly where the coolant temperature sensor is and where the oil pressure sensor is. (2)...


2003 Dodge Neon (non-Turbo)

The coolant sensor threads into the rear of the cylinder head, next to the camshaft position sensor. New sensors have sealant applied to the threads.

The ECT Sensor is a Negative Thermal Coefficient (NTC), dual range Sensor. The resistance of the ECT Sensor changes as coolant temperature changes. This results in different input voltages to the PCM. The PCM also uses the ECT Sensor input to operate the low and high-speed radiator cooling fans.

The combination coolant temperature sensor has two elements. One element supplies coolant temperature signal to the PCM. The other element supplies coolant temperature signal to the instrument panel gauge cluster. The PCM determines engine coolant temperature from the coolant temperature sensor.

As coolant temperature varies the coolant temperature sensors resistance changes resulting in a different input voltage to the PCM and the instrument panel gauge cluster. When the engine is cold, the PCM will provide slightly richer air-fuel mixtures and higher idle speeds until normal operating temperatures are reached.

The PCM has a dual temperature range program for better sensor accuracy at cold temperatures. At key-ON the PCM sends a regulated 5-volt signal through a 10,000-ohm resistor to the sensor. When the sensed voltage reaches approximately 1.25 volts the PCM turns on the transistor. The transistor connects a 1,000-ohm resistor in parallel with the 10,000-ohm resistor. With this drop in resistance the PCM recognizes an increase in voltage on the input circuit.

My cadillac deville(2001)runs smooth,but it runs hot.what is the problem?


Insufficient or weak coolant, bad thermostat (out of range), cooling fan not running or kicking into 2nd phase with A/C on, bad temperature sensor, bad temperature sending unit.(false guage reading).
Start by checking your coolant level and color (nice and green or orange? not rusty looking?) if rusty looking, flush coolant system and refill with recommended coolant type of 50/50 mixture.

Check specific gravity of coolant to see if the mixture is weak.

Verify cooling fan is kicking on after engine reaches operating temperature with engine idling.

Replace thermostat.

Measure resistance of temperature sensor. (should slowly raise as engine heats up)

Measure voltage at sending unit. (should slowly raise as engine heats up)

One of those should solve it, I always lean toward weak coolant and bad thermostat. I have seen bad water pumps do that too.

Well, I can't give you any specific information regarding your vehicle because you forgot to mention what kind of vehicle you have. (This is kinda important if you really want some help figuring out what is wrong with your car)

The "Generic OBD" of code P0128 is "Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature"

The most likely cause is a stuck-open thermostat, however, I have also seen defective Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensors also cause this code.

The temperature sending unit is screwed into cylinder head. Careful you also have a coolant temperature sensor that threads into intake manifold. Temp sending unit is how your guage knows how hot your engine is. Coolant temp sensor is how your computer knows how hot or cold your engine is, so it can compensate fuel & air mixture.You can not put the wrong one in the wrong place, they will not fit. You change 1 for 1 reason & the other for another reason.

If you follow the top radiator hose from the radiator to the enigine you will see a wire connecting to a screw in like plug. This screw in a the temperature sending unit. Disconnect the wire that is going to it and you should be able to unscrew the plug with a socket and ratchet. Be careful to do this when the engine is cold or you run a high risk of coolant spewing out and burning you. You sill lose some coolant even when it is cold but you shouldnt lose enough to have a problem with the coolant level. After you change it run the car and check the resevoir to make sure you didnot lose to much.

2002, 2500 Chevy Diesel guage reads empty when not, new sending unit in forunt tank.


you need to verify that you have voltage going to the sending unit,about 5volts=dim test light,if you do now jump the two wires together and see if your gauge goes to full,if your gauge goes to full its not gauge or wires but only your new sending unit.

Heating System


The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is mounted in the intake manifold and sends engine temperature information to the ECM. The ECM supplies 5 volts to the coolant temperature sensor circuit. The sensor is a thermistor which changes internal resistance as temperature changes. When the sensor is cold (internal resistance high), the ECM monitors a high signal voltage which it interprets as a cold engine. As the sensor warms (internal resistance low), the ECM monitors a low signal voltage which it interprets as warm engine.

See Figures 3 and 4
  1. Remove the ECT sensor from the vehicle.
  2. Immerse the tip of the sensor in container of water.
  3. Connect a digital ohmmeter to the two terminals of the sensor.
  4. Using a calibrated thermometer, compare the resistance of the sensor to the temperature of the water. Refer to the engine coolant sensor temperature vs. resistance illustration.
  5. Repeat the test at two other temperature points, heating or cooling the water as necessary.
  6. If the sensor does not meet specification, it must be replaced.
