1997 Escort P1443 Diagnostic Trouble Code. I changed the Purge Valve Canister $45 at autozone, and cleared DTC's. This fixed the DTC P1443. Problem, I went to get car Smog Checked in CA, and FAILED. I found out that once you clear DTC's, the Car's ECM (computer) has to run 7 readiness tests. This takes a few "drive cycles" to run all tests. I dont know how to do the drive cycle, I just drove on streets, and freeways (7 days). I would check the readiness tests with a code scanner, and would see which tests have run. Well, all tests but the Catlyst would run. I took car to smog place, and guy said it will pass with one test not ready. The car PASSED!
I just wanted to post this, cause I used several websites like this to find answers.

I have a 97 EscortLX wagon with trouble code p1443. Whats it mean &how can I fix it?

P1443 DIFINTION:
EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS CARBON CANISTER PURGE CONTROL VALVE

I know what the problem is. I had the same thing and replaced the EECS Purge Valve and it fixed the problem. The valve is only available from Ford. I have not had the problem come back since. I have also heard that you should check the hoses to make sure there are no cracks in them on that line. The valve is located in a tray near the gas tank next to the evaporative emissions carbon canister, the canister is black plastic and has hoses going to it

1996 Ranger-code P1443-"auxillary emmisions controls" is the decription that I got from Advance Auto Parts diagnostic--What can the problem be?

the Canister Purge Assembly. This assembly connects the intake manifold to the charcoal canister and the assembly is made up of hoses, a valve and a sensor. it is located near the front of the engine compartment on the driver’s side (the canister is right behind the driver’s side headlight). Apparently, if there are any cracks in the hoses, or if the valve or the sensor wears out, this will cause the check engine light to come on, and return the P1443 code.

Codes p0402 and p1443 96 ranger

this means exactly what it says, the emission control valve is faulty and needs replacing.
Basically the valve is in an open position when it should be shut or partially shut.
Replace the valve and this should cure both codes.

Ford failed MOT on High CO emission

High CO usualy means the O2 sensors are not reading properly. Take it to a parts store that can read codes, I know Auto Zone does in my area. If it is the O2 sensor it is an easy fix but the sensors run about $50.00 each.
