No glovebox light in 1998 VW Passat 1.9TDi

Look in the glovebox. If you see a light, you can poke around to figure out how to access the socket. You may see provisions for a light, such as a cover of some sort, but no light.

My 1992 Jetta is discharging when not in use. It has a new battery and the alternator puts out 13+ volts when tested at the battery. What is the most likely short and how do I check for it?

the most common cause for discharging like that, is a faulty switch on either the glovebox light, or the boot light. interior lights are easy to spot if they remain on, but boot and glovebox lights can stay on without being seen. try taking the bulbs out of the bootlight and the glovebox for a few days and see if it helps. if it does, replace one bulb to find out which is the problem.

other possible power drains include alarm systems, radios, and various alternator faults.

check the lights first, and if you need more help to find the problem, feel free to ask

What does the button next to the gear shift do

you could read the owners manual in the glovebox, you could get a replacement manual cheap on ebay or find the company website and search around there for instructions. and you could contact a dealer. there are generally two or three trim packages and you must find which package your car has by comparing pictures in the manual with your car to figure out what the switches and lights do. no one on this board can gaze into a crystal ball and divine which package is in your car.

Dome lights come on and stay on when the truck is started and can not manually shut them off? Kills the battery. pulled the F10 fuse for now but what could have caused the change. Randomly it will allow me...

It's probably the headlight switch, but your truck has an odd bit of circuitry. Is there a switch on the glovebox that turns on some of the dome lights? Look around for that and try opening and closing the glovebox to see if it affects the dome lights. If it does, maybe adhusting the latch would help.

Need to get to the heater blower behind the

Remove the screws on the glove box, then on the side of the dashboard you will see two caps. Remove the caps and you will see two nuts that you have to remove. once you have removed the bolts, you can remove the straps on the blower and evaporator. once you remove the straps have some one help you lift the end of the dashboard up carefully to give you room to remove the blower. and disconnect the connectors. You will have to play a little bit to remove because of the tight space.

Good Luck
