Transmission Issue. I have a 2005 Altima SE-R, 3.5L, auto trany. The transmission jerks, sometimes quite hard, while downshifting between 2nd and 1st usually when coming off the highway onto an off ramp...

This can be caused by a number of things, like a dirty transmission filter, sticky solenoid valve, or worn out transmission fluid. I would recommend that you change the fluid and filter as this should resolve the issue. Seafoam makes a transmission treatment that will not harm your transmission, is compatible with all fluid types, and resolves issues such as the one that you are experiencing. I would recommend that you use a can of it when you have your fluid and filter changed. Most people never change their transmission's fluid, and this is a major mistake, it would be the just like not changing your engine oil, causing premature damage. Transmissions do not require that you change the fluid as often as the engine oil, but nevertheless it is a fluid and does break down after extended periods of use.

My nissan altima will not shifting gears. can't get it out of park.

have you checked your shift lock? if pressed it will release, but if you have a transmission issues the first thing you should check is your transmission fluid, if low replace with dealer fluids only, fill in the right amount the dealer calls for. and if your car is not shifting still then you need a transmission specialist to check it.

TYPE OF TRANSMISSION FLUID

INFO:
As you will only get part of the fluid out We would use the exact correct fluid and not an aftermarket brand.

RECOMEND: Sight unseen.
Stick with k-matic for the 5-speed automatic.

Hope this tip helps.

  2. Turn OFF engine.
  3. Remove the drain plug.
  4. Drain the transmission fluid into a suitable container.
  5. Install drain plug.
    • Torque to: 22-29 lb-ft. (29-39 Nm)
  6. Refill fluid to specified level.
Fluid Type Specifications 4 Speed Automatic Transmission - Nissan Matic "D"

I had the same problem and took it in the dealer. The teeth from the gear broke off. They had to replace the whole trans. at their expense.
