Question about 1996 Honda Accord

I have a 96 honda accord and the fan runs after I turn off the car for 15 minutes. I just replaced the thermostat

Thanks - it is not running hot and always does it regardless of temp. I am worried it will run down my battery. Should I look at the temp sensor or how do I adjust it?

That is normal but on the "long side" of normal. If the engine temp is good while driving, the temp sensor may be slightly out of range, but if its either very hot outside or the engine is running hotter than normal that can influence it as well. That part, you have to consider as I can't see what is going on there.

You have no adjustment on the temp sensor most can be tested with a volt/ohm meter. chiltons or haynes will have the location & operating parameters listed and test procedure. Sometimes just removing it and cleaning off the probe end will help.

I had the same problem a few months ago on my 96 Accord. After turning the engine off the fan ran for about 10minute and no extreme temp while driving. I did not pay too much attention since I live in Texas and thought it was just the warm weather. Suddenly one day the temp just went way over the normal range while I was at a stop sing but I went rapidly down as I sped up towards my house. It turned out my radiator was cracked and I was loosing coolant. There was such a small amount of coolant left in the cooling system that the car needed to be reved up to "move" the remaining coolant through the system.
My advice; check you coolant level and if low check for leaks of some sort. Hopefully is nothing serious like my cracked radiator.

That's normal, especially if you live in a warm part of the country

There is a sticker on the core support that says "caution, fan may run up to 15 minutes with car on or off" (or something to that effect).

when the car is cool, check your coolant level. Run the car and verify the cooling fan comes on. You may then have to replace the thermostat. If it's still a problem, you may need to have the water pump inspected.

Cooling fan will not cut off

honda fans run for 15 minutes when you turn off vehicle perfectly normal for aluminum engine block and head and should not be altered in any way, it is this way for a reason, to keep engine from warping, cracking, and even melting, good luck.

water pump impeller i think here is the problem ,theyr use a plastic impeller on a metal shaft and after a while they spin on the shaft so the force needed to turn the impeller is passed on to the impeller it just stays still causing the exact symptoms you describe

I have a 96 and had similar problem. Did you replaced or removed the Thermostat? If you did please replace it with a new one and it should solve your problem. My vehicle was doing the same thing and after checking sensors and replacing Fan Motor, problem persisted until I replaced the Thermostat. Good Luck.

YOUR ENGINE IS RUNNING HOT.IF FAN KEEP RUNNING WHEN ENGINE IS OFF.CHECK COOLANT MAKE SURE ITS NOT LOW. REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.YOUR RADIATOR CORE COULD BE BLOCKED AND THE RESTRICTED GRILLE FULL OF BEBRIS AND THE.ENGINE BLOCK COOLANT PASSAGES COULD BE BLOCKED OR IGNITION TIMING COULD BE OFF.ALL THESE PROBLEMS CAN CAUSE YOUR ENGINE TO OVER HEAT.

Cooling fan always comes on after the car is turned off

this is normal. The fans are thermostatic controled. When you park your car and the engine is not running and not circulating water the temp. will come up and the fans will come on and cool the water down. Make sure you check your water level in the radiator and expansion tank. AFTER the car has cooled down.
