1985 if I remember correctly should be carburatated. Make sure you are getting spark. If it is burning rich it is usually a problem with the automatic choke. But first spark.... If you pull the distributor cap of and turn the engine over make sure distributor is turning....There could be more serious problems.. Let me know and I will be glad to help further....

How do I fix black smoke problems from exhaust

Sounds like there is something wrong with the fuel injection on your vehicle making it burn to rich (probably one of the senors). The problems you describe sound typically like a car that's burning to rich. To help you understand a car mixes flue and oxygen and then ignites it. The mixture has to be different deepening on how cold or hot the weather is (it is the fuel injection's job to sort this). If it goes wrong and there is to much much flue and not enough oxygen the flue will not ignite very well. It will cause the problems you said. Other common issues with a engine running to rich is rough idoling, stalling all the time and being hard to start. This issue is known as flooding.

the temperature sensor can cause a rich mixture at the wrong time by providing a false reading of cold engine

It has a bad mis and running rich dark foul smelling smoke what's wrong? 1991 chevy v6 s10

possibly a faulty injector for the miss but if you have a head/headgasket problem it would account for the exhaust. Do a compression test and radiator pressure test to eliminate that area of concern

1987 threequrter ton chevy 350 moter with quadura jet carb running rich an smokeing

either the float is sticking, when it is running use the back of a screwdriver and rap the bowl and see if this helps, or the jets need adjusted, start with the right one first, turn in untill the motor starts to lag then open it up untill the rpm stops climbing, do the same with the left one also, see if this helps. let me know.

1988 chevy camaro 2.8 liter multy port fuel injecton I recenly replaced the fuel pressure regulator, but the car is still running rich, idle surging, and misfire. I appriciate your help>

check you oxygen sensor. check the timing catilitic converters could be pluged now too. running rich can be a cause from that also an efect of running rich if theres another problem. check everything else before replacing the cats becausethey arnt cheap and if ist still running rich it will burn them out. also check the firing order if its real bad u may have one switched. that will cause the cats to glow and burn out.

IM a chevy Malibu 2003 My crankShaft Censor Keeps Burning out, 3times I have been to doctor (mechanic) they replace my sensor, Im good for a week then I burn out my crankshaft censor again and again what's...

One of two things. The sensor is being bumped or dropped before it is installed. Or the ECM has gone bad and it is putting out to much drive voltage for the sensors. I suspect that the sensor is being dropped or bumped before or during installation. These sensors are very fragile before they are put in. The sensor voltage from the ECM should be 5.0 volts +- .05 volts.
