Do not try to cut corners on a cheap filter costing a few dollars. This is a false economy and it has the potential to cause serious engine harm down the line.

Alarm bells are ringing about this 'mechanic'. If this is his attitude towards a simple oil change I would be extremely wary of any work he may perform on the car - take the car somewhere else.

Tell you daughter that her 'mechanic' is WRONG. The oil filter MUST be changed every time the oil is changed. If not, you stand to leave up to a quart of dirty/contaminated oil in the engine, which would be held in the filter. It is pointless to add X amount of dirty back into the engine after putting fresh oil in. Additionally, after so many thousand miles, the filtration media contained in the filter assembly will eventually plug up, and the filter can and will rupture, which will then drain all of you engine oil out, at least until you turn off the engine. In short, a filter rupture will destroy the internals of the motor.

Just change the filter with every oil change. The 5-6 dollars for the filter is much cheaper than a replacement engine.

If it has an oil filter that can be removed, then it has to be changed at least every other oil change. Better repace with every oil change. Some modern cars as some european sedans (bmw and mercedes) as well as some fancy corvettes and probably vipers, do not have external oil filters and do not even have a dipstick. On this cars, the oil is special to be changed every 30 top 50 thousand miles, but even on this vehicles, there is an internal oil filter that also has to be replaced.

Oil filter should be changed with any oil change or it is pointless changing the oil as it will just get dirty from the filter

Oil light comes on when car is ideling

It could be a blocked oil filter, idle rpm's too low , incorrect viscosity of oil and failing oil pump. It may be also a faulty oil sender unit . What ever it is have a oil pressure check using a mechanical gauge first

2001 chrysler town & country oil light is on

If you are taking the car to the garage or a mechanic, mark the oil filter before leaving home to make sure the filter is changed. After the oil has been changed when you return home you can check the filter to see if it was changed because the oil will only be changed. Since some mechanics know an owner of a vehicle will not check. Also, AutoZone have a very good quality oil for the chrysler town and country. Good Luck

Had a faulty oil filter put in by Jiffy Lube. Low oil pressure light came on after about 2000 miles into oil change. Jiffy Lube stated it was a faulty oil filter and replaced it. Drove off and light...

I can tell you that it sounds like someone is trying to take you for a ride.. I've been a mechanic for 28 years. And I've never heard of o rings going bad on a motor that only has 56000 miles. Change the oil filter again.. make sure that it's not a fram.. gram filters have been known to cause your oil pressure light come on. Hope this helps you.

My 2006 Town Car is leaking a small amount of oil. Garage has checked and replaced oil plug and tightened oil filter but I am still noticing small 1/2 dollar bill size leak on garage floor. Any ideas? Cost...

Check for stains in the valve cover gasket on the side of the oil filter, and in the engine block right above the filter. There is not much that can leak on that side, other than filter itself, and you already checked it. You HAVE to take the car to dealer for warranty inpection, and repair. The issue not only has to be covered by warranty, but by not doing so in time, it might void the warranty, for being careless about it.

I have my truck at the dealership garage now, and my wife is calling me telling me the many items they wish to fix or correct.....brake pads, air filter, transmission line cleaning(?), I was sending it in...

No, I would refuse any thing other than the oil change. Remove the wheel and inspect the brake linings, that will give you an indication whether you need to look for another place to change the oil, or do it your self. Air cleaner you can replace yourself, transmission fluid and filter you can change yourself. Also brake pads you can change yourself.

when your daughter turned the carover where did the oil come out of did a drive shaft pop out as you need to find out as oil just doesn,t come out of the box once you find out let me know because if the garage did any work on the box even putting a drive shaft back in they can argue the point the seal was damaged putting the shaft back in and you need to know where on the box the leak is coming from don,t forget if the dealers say its to do with the accident get them to put it in writing and if the repair was done under insurance then you have a case against the garage that did the repair as they cannot have it both ways its definatley not your fault yates210456

My oil filter is collapsing after about 1000 miles after the oil change.

You are probably buying cheap filters. Fram is not your friend. Get something of good quality. It's also possible you're not seating the filter correctly during installation and it's collapsing from improper flow.
