I got a small hole in one of the rubber return fuel lines

I got a small hole in one of the rubber return hoses on my 1992 Olds Cutlass. I was thinking of cutting the line and using a connector with some small hose clamps to fix the problem but I'm not sure. This is gasoline and hot car parts and I don't want anything to backfire, literally or figuratively.....suggestions?

On a return hose, your idea is fine. Use clamps made for fuel systems as they don't bite into the rubber. I suggest that you place the tightening screws 180 degrees opposite each other using two at each end. What you use to join the hose is optional. You can put a very slight flair at each end of a short steel line or use a brass coupler with barbs (better).

The danger is that the hole may have been caused by the deterioration of the hose ... if you repair it then it may just fail somewhere else .. if you know what damaged the hose and decide to repair it then make sure the coupler is metal not plastic unless you are sure the plastic can handle the alcohol that is used in todays gas and there is no stress possible on the joint ..

Can I repair a fuel line leak with tape or any sort of sealant so that I can drive it to a shop? 1993 Oldsmobile Ciera

not sealant But get small length of rubber hose,,, small ,as in just larger than metal line then get two small screw band clamps cut the leak spot with bolt cutters QUICKLY insert hose on two ends of line with CLAMPS ALREADY ON HOSE screw them tight stop at service dest inform them of gas leak so they can take precautions.

they will ask fix or replace say FIX so they don't chage you $120 an hour shop time to bend fuel line hose to replace entire line... NOT necessary..old school repair if fine replace line is $$$ and not neccessary very little pressure in fuel line mostly gravity flow you may even say its more practical

My brakes dont work the rubber hose is leaking in the back/92 olds cutlessciera how do i fix my brake line and the pipes

The rubber hose you buy at the auto parts store.
If you have rusted and leaking hard lines, they also have them. But you have to cut, bend and flair, the ends yourself. No other way .

How do you replace fuel pump 1993 camry

1992-96 Models

Be sure this procedure is done in a well ventilated area.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Relieve the fuel pressure.
  3. Remove the rear seat cushion.
  4. Remove the floor service hole cover.
  5. Disconnect the electrical fuel pump wiring at the fuel pump assembly. Check for any fuel leakage while in there.

  1. Remove the gas cap, this will prevent any fuel gas spilling out of any high pressure lines.
  2. Using SST 09631-22020 or an equivalent line (flare nut) wrench, disconnect the outlet

pipe from the pump bracket.
  1. Remove the pump bracket attaching screws.
  2. Disconnect the return hoses from the pump bracket, then pull out the pump/bracket assembly.
  3. Remove the nut and spring washer, then disconnect the wires from the pump bracket.
  4. Remove the sending unit attaching screws, then remove the unit from the bracket.
  5. Pull the lower side of the fuel pump from the bracket.
  6. Unplug the connector to the fuel pump.
  7. Disconnect the hose from the pump.
  8. Separate the filter from the pump. Use a small screwdriver to remove the attaching clip.
  9. Inspect all of the lines, hoses and fittings for any sign of corrosion, wear or damage to the surfaces. Check the pump outlet hose and the filter for restrictions.
  10. When reassembling, ALWAYS replace the sealing gaskets with new ones. Also replace any rubber parts showing any sign of deterioration.

To install:
  1. Install the pump filter using a new clip. Install the rubber cushion under the filter.
  2. Connect the outlet hose to the pump, then attach the pump to the bracket and tighten to 22-25 ft. lbs. (29-34 Nm).
  3. Engage the connector to the fuel pump.
  4. Install the fuel sending unit to the pump bracket.
  5. Install the fuel pump and bracket assembly onto the tank. Use new gaskets. Tighten the pump bracket retaining screws to 34 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
  6. Connect the return hoses to the pump bracket.
  7. Install the service hole cover, then the engage the fuel pump and sending unit connector.
  8. Install the rear seat cushion.
  9. Start the engine and check carefully for any sign of leakage around the tank and lines. Road test the vehicle for proper operation.

Hope this help (remember comment and rated this).

1991 olds cutlass supreme with a 3.1 v-6 the engine

I am having a similar problem, but there is no check engine light. It seems that mine dies at the light or running, if the rpm's drop. I am wondering if the Idle air control valve is bad or possibly the ERG valve?

On a 1994 olds cutlass supreme SL can i put a regular rubber hose over a leak on the power steerings high pressure hose to buy myself time before i can afford to replace it? i plan on hose clamping it...

If it is a small leak you might be able to wrap it with a rubber hose and apply several clamps to put a band-aid on it. However, this is only temporary at best and could still cause problems depending on where it is leaking. One possible alternative to a new hose - if you take the hose to a shop like The Hoseman (or equivalent) they can rebuild the hose cheaper than buying a new one.

1995 olds cutlass ciera 3.1 V-6 stalls when warm

Some times the fuel line may be too close to the exhaust manifold or engine and can create a condition called vapor lock. This is where the fuel is heated to a vapor in the fuel line. This is easily corrected by just moving the fuel line away from the source of the heat.
