Question about 1995 Dodge Dakota

1 Answer

Cabin Air Oders

I have a 1995 Dodge Dakota SLT 4X4 that the A/C is no longer working because of leak. There seems to be a musty/moldy kind of smell when I turn on the air vents. I am not sure if the A/C fluid leak has caused the problem or if there is something else I need to check. Apparently there is no cabin air filter that I need to change. How do to find the cause of the oder and help get rid of it. I have allergies and this is killing me. May have to sell the truck. :(

It sounds like your AC drain line is plugged and leaving water to pool and get rank. Get under truck and clean out the AC drain line.

1 filter. You could also try spraying deodorizer into the cabin air system intake near the hood and windshield from the exterior.

Musty smell from A/C in 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT SE

Most common cause is water sitting in the bottom of the a/c heater box. Make sure the outside drain is open. There are spray products for using on the vents.

Smell in A/C when on could it be the filter ?

95 doesn't have a cabin filter. Chrsyler issued a TSB on musty moldy smelling a/c and how to deal with it.

What you can do is swing by your Jeep dealer and pick up a can of there cleaner. Or swing by your local auto parts store and they will have several products that will help with the smell. Follow the directions on the can and you should be in good shape.

Look for the cabin air filther in my 2000 gmc jimmy

I'm 99% sure it doesn't have a cabin air filter. I've serviced many Jimmys and similar GM trucks of the same era and never replaced a cabin air filter or seen a reference of one in manuals. What kind of smell are you experiencing? Is it a musty moldy smell or a horrid animal smell?

The heater has a musty smell,I suspect i need to

It sounds to me if you are having a "musty smell" then you might have a problem with your condensation drain line for you a/c system or a small leak on your heater core. If it is plugged then water will collect in the vent system causing a musty smell from the water not draining and if there is a small leak on the heater core then coolant can collect in the vent system. I would run the a/c on a warm day and look for water draining from the vehicle around where the dash is located to check the drain line. As far as your air cabin filter most are located behind the glove box. You usually need to remove the glove box to get to the filter.

IS THERE A CABIN FILTER ON MY 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO ?IS THIS WHY WHEN MY TRUCK IS CLOSED UP IT SMELLS LIKE MOLD OR MUSTT.AND WHEN I TURN ON MY HEAT AND DEFROST?

There are none on the 2006. There might be some moisture that entered the carpet in the vehicle at some time or another and caused a moldy or musty smell. There are several different air fresheners that can be added to the interior under the seat and in the carpets to help make is smell better.
