Question about 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

ABS under 10 mph goes off...feels like we won't stop!

The abs light has been on for a few weeks. In another question concerning abs light, a person mentioned it might be a sensor wire and clip detached or loose. But that was a question just for the ABS light going off. My problem is more than that; the anti-lock-brakes actually started kicking in shortly after the light appeared. It only happens during braking once we are almost stopped, it seems to be only 10 mph or slower. It is getting worse...loosing ability to use brakes to stop at those low speeds, and I am afraid if we aren't careful we could rear end someone. My husband checked all brakes and pads and they just fine. I've been giving myself plenty of room for braking so I can shift down until I can come to a gentle stop by shifting all the way into 1st gear just before the abs goes off so I can crawl to a stop without brakes, thus NOT setting off the abs. My dad had a similar problem with his Chevy Suburban. He just unhooked the ABS altogether rather than paying high costs for repair. His Suburban had a recall due to corrosion in the east, but not in the west where he lives. I can't find anything relating to a Trailblazer recall or similar problems from other Trailblazer owners. Hoping it is something as easy as the sensor wire and clip. Any tips would be most appreciated!

Like the other person mentioned, if you have a faulty sensor or bad connection, that would trigger the light. That may also be triggering your ABS to kick in when it doesn't need to. On each wheel, there will be a sensor with some wires coming out of it located on the inside of the axle just behind the rotor. You'd have to test each sensor to determine if one or all of them are faulty.

The 1999 chevy tahoes had the same recall, the problem was that the sensors were getting dirty or corroded and setting off the abs [in the low speed mode ].the recall had the techs removing the abs senson to clear or if to corroded replace the sensor .abs will activate at 5 mph also will feel abs when rolling at about 5 mph without stepping on brake unlike the tahoe or surb u cant remove just the sensor and clean or replace just sensor the trailblazer equinox and most of the chevy line the hub and abs are one unit auto stores 125-190 for hub.if have friend or friendly with someone with a pro scan tool they can hook scanner and drive vehicle and will show which sensor bad

ABS CHECK LIGHT DOESNT COME ON WHEN YOU TURN KEY ON

1. I would not be concerned because if there was a failure in the ABS you would definitely get an ABS warning light and the ABS and most likely the stability control/traction control systems (with added warning lights) will all switch off .

2. You can test if the ABS is operational. On a very quiet damp surface, straight, wide road( with NO other cars around), apply your brakes hard from a very low speed - up to 20 mph ONLY driving in a straight line - until the car stops. The front brakes should attempt to lock up under hard braking and if the ABS is operational you will feel it kick in and the brake pedal will pulsate as the ABS constantly allows brake pressure and then releases it to prevent the wheels from locking up on the damp road. If the ABS does not kick in be ready to release the brake pedal quickly to allow the wheels to rotate so you can steer the car safely. Without the ABS the front wheels should begin to lock up on the damp road surface due to the low level of tire grip. ONLY test this at very low speed and ONLY when driving in a straight line on a straight section of wide road with no other vehicles around.

Reset abs light pajero

When the ABS comes into play from heavy braking you will feel a pulsating of the brake pedal under your foot. This is the brake pressure, on off on off as the wheels stop start stop etc. The ABS will not control the vehicle direction but by allowing the wheels to turn under brakes and not lock up you have control of the steering and the direction the vehicle goes. The ABS will not stop you quicker and in fact on ice or loose surface the distance to stop will be increased. As I said all the ABS does is give you steering ability under brakes.. Take the vehicle to an accredited brake shop and have the ABS tested if you feel that it is no operating properly

The ABS light comes on, and sure enough on slipery road conditions, there's no ABS. BUT when it's icy, the ABS light on the dashboard goes out, and checking to see if I have ABS, sure enough I do. It's...

the abs warning light also works with the electronic traction control, (or traction control, same system, different names) and when icy, stops the wheels from spinning, above about 15 mph.(the abs dont work under 5mph) so if im right regarding your question, your car is doing what its supposed to,stopping the driving wheels from spinning/locking up.the warning light comes on when one or the other is doing its job.(working).the trick is to drive so that the warning light doesnt come on..... boring.

ABS problem with GMC 2002 Sierra

its a low speed abs activation the problem is in the front sensors they need to be cleaned or replaced they [or one] probably has some corrosion on the sensor --[the 99 chevy tahoes had a limited recall over this issue and the fix was to remove and clean the abs sensor or if to corroded replace ] this problem doesnt set off an abs code or trouble light also sometimes the abs will activate by itself at under 4 mph without even touching brake

Brakes grindind at low speed

Sounds like your getting abs activation when its not needed. Most likley one of the wheel speed sensors has failed. You do need to have a scan tool to read the live data from the abs module as the problem is occurring to pinpoint which sensor is faulty. The abs light will not come on because the abs module thinks its just working normally. I'm an ASE certified mechanic and have seen this problem many times on various vehicles. You might have to pay somebody to diagnose it, but replacing the sensor it a very easy task. I hope this helps.
