Question about 2000 Dodge Durango

1 Answer

Our 2003 4.7L auto transmission intermittenly revs extremely high before shifting from 1st to 2nd. It's been doing that for a while. As soon as it gets into the next gear range the problem stops. Fluids look normal and are at proper levels. 108,000 mi. could it be something as simple as a speed snsor?

It could be a number of things..
It could be the modulator (modulator tells it when to shift), or electronics inside the trani..
I would advise taking it to a trani shop for a proper diagnose..
Allot of them will offer free estimate..
It is best to act swiftly to avoid costly damage..
If the trani is slipping between gears - it could be causing costly damage to the bands..

Have a great day..

My 2001 GMC Jimmy 4x4 Automatic with 84K miles. It winds when I put it in reverse and I think I only have 1st and 2nd gear. Additionally it revs high, like over 3000 rpm, delays and then eventually...

It winds up in 1st and then shifts right from 1st into 3rd. Then never shifts into 4th. Plus rev is gone. You broke the sun shell. The transmission will need to rebuilt or replaced.

My 1991 240sx is at my local mechanics shop. He is getting abnormal transmission pressure readings and has not been able to diagnose the problem or has not tried hard enough. The care does not shift into...

The 240sx auto transmission will not shift from 1st to 2nd until going about 25 mph with gentle throttle (35mph with full throttle). I do not recall what engine RPM this corresponds to, but i know it always seemed high.

As for the hard shift two second, there is rectangular module that is inside the driver side fender next to the ignition coil that is sometimes unplugged to get a more "sporty" feel out of the automatic transmission. Check that plug and if it is unplugged, plug it back in.

1992 GMC Suburban not shifting into OD, Transmission Modulator?

The shift down linkage on the carburetor below the gas pedal cable might need to be adjusted to increase the hydraulic pressure on the internal clutch plates in the transmission it shows you how to do that in a car manual.

2nd gear crunch

first of all you shouldn't be reving that high to change gears. that's too high. secondly if it's grinding only during the change from 1st to 2nd gear you may have a problem with the gears not being aligned anymore...ie synchronizers worn out, bearings worn out, etc. take to reputable transmission shop to get it diagnosed and repaired. it sounds like the synchronizers are a problem there. and you may have metal in your fluid now that it's been grinding which will affect the rest of the transmission. if you are speed shifting as in racing, you are not doing your transmission any good. you probably don't have a transmission built to do that if it's the original factory tranny... meaning you did a major NO NO to your tranny and are tearing it up speed shifting when it isn't built for racing.
