Code 51 is Wide Open Throttle Problem. You need to replace your fuel filter, possibly drain fuel tank and clean fuel pump pre-filter. That is in the fuel tank. If you have the cash, I would replace fuel pump while inside the tank.

Try the site http://www.allpar.com/fix/codes/faults/code-51-52.html

For 1986 and later models, code 51 is triggered when the engine has been running lean for more than 11 minutes, 55 seconds, as reported to the computer by the oxygen sensor (O2); and code 52 is triggered when the engine has been running rich for more than 11 minutes, 55 seconds. The power limited light will not be lit in either case.
If the condition which causes code 51 or 52 continues for four times the time it took to set the code (roughly 48 minutes), the engine will run in closed loop mode, which forces it to run rich, preventing it from running lean (running lean can cause severe damage). During closed loop, the logic module continues to monitor the O2 sensor.

Not my words, but hope it helps

I disagree.

A code 51 indicates thathe car was running lean for more than 11 minutes and 55 seconds. Whilst fue pressure 'could' be an issue, I would be looking very strongly at the oxygen sensor, before I wasted any money on the fuel system. If the car runs, and runs reasonably OK, you do not have a fuel delivery issue.

I have code 51 flashing. Where is the air bag diagnostic module located?

Hi, the code 51 flashing means that the internal fuse is blown and the short to ground is no longer present. If the short to ground returns, the code will change to 13 (air back circuit shorted to ground) or 14 (primary crash sensor circuit shorted to ground), but it will only flash 13 or 14 when the short is present. If the code remains 51, then first find and repair short before replacing the diagnostic monitor (what people call air bag module).
Take care

I have a 1990 4Runner A/T and solved the error #51 replacing the Throttle Sensor. Don't forget to connect a Ohmeter and adjust this sensor to its right ohmeter values for a properly installation, this sensor is not a PLUG & PLAY stuff. Oh, and the idle was fixed too.

My airbag light is flashing a code 51 on my Ford. It sounds like it is as simple as replacing a fuse but I'm not sure where the fuse is located. Also, prior to the 51 code I was getting a 52 code, is this...

Hi there,

Yes, and No....

Although the Airbag diagnostics #51 & #52 are related to the basic fuse/power issue, if you simply replace the fuse, it will continue to blow the replacement fuse until you correctly erase all airbag codes from the computer.

There is a way to do this, without the need for a diagnostic scanner....

If you are technically inclined and can make up a 2 x jumper wires (each with tiny alligator clips on the ends), I can show you how to do this.

If yes, then you need to locate and confirm your data connector is the same as this one (found in the interior fuse box):

Airbag lt on

Hi!

Code 51 means: Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor Internal Thermal Fuse ä Fuse Blown Due to Intermittent Short to Ground. It means that the computer controlling the airbags sensed a short in the wiring and disabled itself by tripping an internal fuse for safety reasons so that the air bag cannot be deployed accidentally. To repair the car, the wiring problem must be fixed, and then the airbag module replaced. Look for smashed wires, wires that are rubbing against bare metal or other wiring damage affecting the airbag circuits. This wiring is all under the plastic cowl around the steering column.

Please do rate the solution as FixYa and revert for further clarification.

Thanks
