Question about 2001 Volkswagen Golf
If you've not done this before, I highly recommend purchasing an after-market DIY service manual which will guide you in such service.
Improperly installed timing belts can destroy your engine when the key is turned the first time after replacement.
This can happen in any 'interference' type engine and can cause the pistons to hit the valves if they are in the wrong position.
