have your alternator tested...many times it will do that if one diode in the unit has failed.

Use a volt meter to check charging system at idle. It should be at least 13 volts. Most likely a bad or loose alt belt, could be a bad Alt.

This is indication of the battery being in good shape and almost fully charged. The light on the dashboard is an indication that your dynamo is producing sufficient current, which increases when you rev up and the vehicle is no longer drawing any charge from the battery. On idling, dynamo produces less current, thus to keep the electrical parts running it draws a small amount of charge from the battery thus lighting the indicator is very dim. Do not worry. Everything is OK with your cars engine & battery...........sodeep

check voltage at the battery terminals while the engine is off, it should be around 12 VDC, then start the engine and check again, should be varied betwen 13 to 14 VDC, and turn the head light and A/C on and check to see if dropped bellow 12 that means alternator regulator is faulty. good luck

Relays click when interior fan is on

Often the click which can be heard when the A.C. kicks in is the clutch on the A.C. compressor. Be sure that it isn't just this sound which you are hearing.
Also check the operation of the idle control valve which is supposed to raise the engine revs to compensate for heavy power drain. If this isn't working correctly, then this would explain the lights dimming under low revs.

Have 2002 Nissan frontier. Recently bought new battery. Had alternator checked by autozone. Truck will not start occasionally, and sometimes dies while driving. Lights will dim and truck will not...

I would get a second opinion on your alternator. Does your battery light come on while your driving? That can be an indicator of an alternator going bad. Also, there's an easy way to check the alternator yourself if you have access to a multi-meter. Turn the multi-meter on to DC volts and start the car. Put the positive lead on the positive battery terminal and the negative lead on the negative battery cable. While the car is idling, the meter should read 12.5 - 13.5 volts. Have someone rev the engine. With the increased RPM's the meter should read over 14 volts. If the voltage goes down when you rev the engine, your alternator is bad.

Good Luck!

Battery light comes on while stopped and idling with heater on when sitting at a red light for more than 2 minutes or so, and when this happens I slip my Caravan into neutral and slightly rev the engine...

maybe a weak alternator, the voltage regulator may also be in the alternator, auto zone may be able to tell you weither it is or not, AND... they will test alternator for free as well.
