Have one of the best scanners on the market.GENESYS. No codes present. Sometimes it will run for a few days, then it will only crank over and not start.
    Thanks

Why would it run fine for a few days, then not start? Then after a day or so it will run fine again. After you shut it down when it running, there is generally a problem with restart. The engine does not shut down when running, it that it will not restart at times without waiting for an extended period of time.

    Thanks

Fuel pressure is good. Why will it run for a day or so then crank and not start? During the time it is running , when you shut it down it is difficult to restart at times, but will restart. It may set overnight and then not start at all. When it "goes down" it does so after it sets for an extended period of time.

    Thanks

This is a fuel system related issue.

1. Check that the rating of the fuel pump is same as the replaced one. If not replace with the same rating.

2. Check the fuel filters for possible dirts. Else replace the fuel filters.

3. Be sure that the fuel line have no blockages preventing free flow of fuel to the engine. Clean with the injector cleaner.

Good luck.

After all the checks and replacements, the car should be running goo.

You seem to have replaced all electrics components, so those parts should be functioning properly. There are a couple of things which you can look into.

  1. The engine must be a MPFI (multi point fuel injection). The nozzles of the injector are prone to deposition of carbon, which blocks the nozzles supplying fuel-air mixture as a fine spray, ensuring full combustion. Spray some carb. cleaner into the intake, and even if you notice the sound of engine while cranking, add some more carb. cleaner to the fuel, at/from the fuel pump or add it to the gas tank if quantity of fuel is 2-3 litres, in proportion, and crank till it starts. Have a fully charged battery as standby in case the one in the car gets drained.
  2. Check if the fan belts are not loose or too tight.
  3. Engine oil, if above the top notch on the dip stick, tends to disturb the distributor & the spark of the plugs
  4. If gas overflows(smell), hen also the engine is flooded & refuses to start.
  5. Check the cap of the Fuel Tank. It's supposed to let in air as the tank empties, else it builds up a -ve pressure not allowing the fuel to flow smoothly.
Hope these tips help!..................................sodeep

The holes of the nozzles are very fine and if some are clear it will supply the fuel-air mixture since petrol helps in clearing carbon deposition. Then when it cannot supply due to blocking of another nozzle which is not enough to the amount that enters the cylinder, it simply wont fire. One thing I just remembered that if air sneaks into the pipeline(fuel), it will form an air lock rendering the fuel pump not getting any supply of fuel. Also the fuel tank cap should be checked to ensure that it allows in air to fill the emptiness of fuel created as more gas is being conumed by the sngine

Do u have any system troble codes?? this is key to fixin the problem, as you have already found out guessing gets very expensive very fast, u could have had the dealer fix it by now, so need to have the error codes, if u domn't have a scanner have the test run and let me know what shows up.

You may have lost the timing chain/belt. If the timing is off it won't start. First, you have to determine if you are getting any spark at all. Pull a spark plug, an easy one to get to. Hold it with some pliers with the bottom of the plug on the metal valve cover where it is ground. Then have someone turn it over to start, watch the gap in the plug for the blue arc of a firing plug. If there is no spark, we back up a step. If there is spark, you may have another issue.

It needs only 2 things to start: Fuel and Spark with an addition condition of having a correct air fuel : ratio of 14.6 : 1 . It means not too much or too little fuel mixing with air.
I think you already figured out this that was why you have a list of parts changed. However , have you checked to see what was missing?
Now let crank it for several times, then
1- Pull out spark plug # 1.
2- If it is dry then your problem is not having fuel. Check out your fuel filter and cold start valve. This case you don't have enough fuel.
3-If it is wet, you have a weak spark or too much fuel causing by a bad cold start valve ( it is supposed to turn on only a few seconds then turn off). This case you have too much fuel.
4- Now to check the spark, let Spark plug # 1 touch the engine chassis.
2- Have a helper to crank the engine so you can see if you have spark. You can tell a spark is strong or weak, then check out the coil resistance for a replacement.

Replace starter. Car has been running fine for last 2 weeks, however today car won't start. Battery ok. What's the likely problem?

Ronald,
When you replaced the starter, I assume you did disconnect the battery. Did you clean the posts before putting your battery cable back on? I replaced my battery a couple of months ago and did not clean them and my van ran fine for several days and then one day would not start. Cleaned the posts and cable ends and everything worked fine. Just a thought. Hope this helps!

1994 Toyota tercel dies while driving, starts when crank couple time.will run good on freeways, only dies when driving in short steets.some days wont die.new timimng belt, reman distributor, cap, rotor wires...

have your alternator checked it sounds like its putting out low voltage you can do it you have a volt meter just hook it to the battery terminals you will be looking for a range of 13.5 volts to about 14 volts if your under thirteen its not enough voltage for the car to run and charge the battery at the same time.

2000 blazer will not start did a manifold gasket job, replaced plugs, wires, distributor cap,new fuel filter. Cranked and ran really good for 2 days then will not crank

Check you starter, maybe you have a loose connection. Try to give direct power to the starter and see what's happening. I nothing happens, you have a bad starter.

I jumped car off it crunk on its own fora day, then batt went dead again, this time it won't jump off. It wants to crank but won't turn over.

not sure what you said but.
seems the battery is discharging,? 12.6v is fully charged,
own a voltmeter?
try a good loaned battery , does it start the car,?
i think you meant?
i can jumper cable start my car at any time. (off another running car)
but after running my car, the battery discharges and it will not crank at all. right?
this means ,the charging system on your car is bad.
if the starter cranks great, then the engine is flooded or is in great need of a tune up (sparkplugs etc)
if flooded try the super secret in the op guide, crank with throttle wide open , this magic trick cuts all fuel injection allowing the flooding
to purge away, and eventual starting.
my guess 2 is the car wont start, so you crank the battery flat
you jumper start it and it runs. (luck)
then day 2, same deal cranks ok but wont start.. ever tune up the engine?

HI, MY CAR START AND 2 SECONDS LATER DIES,,, THIS HAPPENS SOMETIMES, ANY IDEAS??? AFTER STARTS RUNS PERFECT NO PROBLEMS, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS. THANKS....

bad fuel pump, bad relay, bad crank sensor, bad ignition module. Being a 13 year old car it could be anything. To start with you need to check for codes the same day this happens.

2000 s10 starter last only 2 months,

I would check current draw with a good ammeter & se how much current the starter draws when cranking. I owuld guess about 400 amps, but check with Delco. Other possibility is starter is binding on flywheel.
Did you disassemble one of the faulty staters to see if armature is rubbing on magents or coils?
Are these starters remans or new? Remans sometimes have problems.

Engine Floods after brief start and run when cold -then shut off

Local mechanic determined engine was flooded and started it by holding throttle to the floor and cranking 5-7 seconds - then the engine sputtered to life. It has run perfectly before and since and I'm at a bit of loss to understand why this occurred this one time - so far. It's been driven now 5 days with no problems.

Long crank, no start

I want to thank u for reporting ur problem. I recently had to change my fuel pump and it just happened to have happened on the same day u had to change urs. I really think that after having a car for less than 2 years this should not have happened but I am no mechanic just a driver. But just wanted u to know that u should also have them do a fuel cleaning and flush out the injectors and a throttle body service. Good luck hope I have helped u out.
