Question about Dodge Ram 1500

1 Answer

I'm having problems with the indicators and brake lights along with the wipers intermittently failing, the first thing that happened was the "lamp out" sign came on then lost all electrics to the above, i've replaced the multi function switch which seemed to cure it but returned a couple of days later.

Check again the multi function switch, if you have a contact, then there may be an abnormal power draw that keeps blowing the multifunction relay. You can use a volt meter tester to find out if there is power coming to multi function switch, and if the switches are opening and closing circuits. You may find out that the switch had blown again.

If the devices are working, and problem come and goes, it may be a bad ground connection to multifunction switch. In that case you will find out that old switch is still good.

I have a 1999 316i the warning light for light out on instrument panel comes on intermittently. It will indicate right headlamp out or right tail lamp out.

If this happens when the lamps are actually working, is it likely caused by the LKM module if they are anything like those in the earlier cars. My 1989 735i had this issue for tail lamps and brake lamps, and reading forums revealed this problem can be cured two ways: either disassemble the LKM box and re-solder all the connections to the circuit board (not fun) or replace unit with one from a 1994 or newer model. Sounds as if even the newer models still have the same issue. Replacement LKM's are very pricey, even from salvage yards.

Fog lamp indicator comes off and on intermittently. Had a new battery recently

There are two types of PT Cruisers, those that the multi-function switch (the one on your steering wheel that controls turn signals/foglights) HAS failed and those that it WILL fail. Yours probably has failed and your fog lights come on whenever they feel like it, even if the car is parked with no key in the ignition, thus your need for a new battery. You can find the replacement part on Amazon (Amazon com Shee Mar SM147 Turn Signal Fog Lamp Wiper Dimmer Multifunction... ) or have your mechanic replace it.

1995 ford windstar gl and only the top mount brake lamp is illuminating. Checked all fuses and bulbs and they are all ok. the rear lower 2 lamps illuminate when the lights are on, they just don't brighten...

Sounds like maybe a bad turn signal switch. If the brake and turn signal use the same bulb than the turn signal switch will interrupt the brake signal and supply a turn signal to the bulb. Usually you can wiggle the switch while holding the brake pedal down and get them to intermittently work. If that happens than for sure the switch has failed.

I have a 2003 Jetta TDI and the coil light comes on and flashes

Amazingly enough, If one or more of your brake lights is burned out this can cause the Glow plug indicator to flash, replace the burned out bulb(s). This often sets a Code but will not turn on the Check Engine light. It took me forever to find this solution first time it happened. I've seen it many times since.

When brakes are applied parking and dash board lights come on.when headlights are on,brake lights and tail lights do not work.very first symptom was an intermittent tail or brake light out indicator...

you might have an open ground wire on your brake/tail lights .. when you apply the brakes then power would flow thru the brake light (not see ground) so would then provide power backwards thru the parking light (common ground open) to all the other things connected to the parking lights .. like the other parking lights and dash ... when you turn power on to those things (headlights on) then there is 12 volts on both sides of the light .. thats why the lights quit working ... if the missing ground is the problem then most of the lights that are improperly turning on should be at a lowered brightness level.. interesting problem .. its also possible to have a brake light bulb that has the common ground open inside or not making connection with its socket .. i would start by removing the brake lamps and see if the problem goes away .. if it does look for a broken ground or damaged lamp ..

Intermittent wiper, turn indicator, rear screen demister not work

Electrical problems are rife in these models. Try replacing the relevant relay box - a black box situated in the fuse box bay. This will hopefully solve your problem. Good luck!
