If you have a broken thrust washer for sure ,you must have the gearbox out,,,,if you have it out then you would need to spend some time in a mental institution if you didnt do the whole job ,rerace it and do the job properly ,there is no cheapway to fix things it allways comes back and bites youfair square on the arse "youdoit"

Toyota landcruiser remote central locking

I suggest you take it to a local Toyota dealer as these are simple faults that should be easy to fix. They may just be a fuse has blown. I would doubt it is worth taking a legal approach to solving this as it will be cheaper to fix it yourself plus how can you prove they were working prior to the gearbox repair.

Manual gearbox

The detent on the shifter for 4th is worn. Worn thrust washers on the gear shaft can also cause this.

Hi < i have a 1997 Ford Aspire . It appears to have a noisey clutch. When disengaged & in neutral its noisey . When depressed fully the noise goes . Is this a thrust bearing noise ?

You guessed it......this is the thrust bearing......when you put your foot on the clutch its puts this thrust bearing under load......and when released it is spinning on the shaft with no load on it....

bad news, you have to pull the gearbox out to get to it......

check the clutch whilst it's off, so you don't have to take the gearbox off again...if it fails later

Hi the problem you are having is going to be with the clutch plate you will find that it has worn down to the metal pins and has no actual clutch plate left.

What is happening is that when you put the car in gear and let the clutch up the clutch is slipping on the plate instead of gripping and this is why you loose the drive.

To solve this problem your going to need to buy a clutch repair kit if your doing the sork yourself or get someone else to fit the parts for you.

Your going to need to replace the following:
pressure plate
clutch plate
thrust bearing.

dont try driving the car as it is as you could cause damage to the gearbox if the clutch plate and pressure plate shatter so its not worth trying to move the car until you have had the clutch fixed.

getting the clutch replaced involves removing the gearbox from the engine and this is best done with the car on ramps as the gear box will come out from the bottom of the car so it needs to be high enough off the floor to allow you to remove the gear box, its not a hard job if you have done it before but it is heavy work and if you have not done this before then your best getting someone else to replace the clutch for you.

getting the clutch changed will solve your problem and get you up and running again in no time.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Clutch is noisy, when i depress the clutch the noise goes away

this noise is caused by a noisy clutch throw-out/release bearing, that is the part that presses against the pressure plate and disengages the clutch disk, the transmission must be removed to replace this part, so it is best to replace the clutch assembly at the same time, the labor for both is the same, about 5 hours

Fork engaging slave cylinder from tranny. (91 3000GT, mitsu)

Called a clutch fork Holds the thrust bearing right? and goes through the clutch (Bell) housing Got to be careful here or Is it the rod that goes directly into the slave cylinder? Either way as long as the rest of the cars ok it's worth keeping If it's the clutch fork you going to have to remove gearbox (Not the end of the world) Part won't be that expensive

How easy is it to replace a noisy clutch thrust bearing. 53 plate Ford Focus 1.6 petrol zetec.

The thrust bearing is normally a part of a new clutch kit.Comprises pressure plate, clutch plate and thrust bearing. You will need to remove the gear box to change the bearing. The bearing basically slides onto the gearbox shaft. Recommend changing all three rather than just the beaing. You may want to get quotes from garages as dealers are expensive.
