Can you recommend a sealant for head gasket in 2003 jeep Cherokee 2.5

If the gaskets come with a coating of sealant, do not use any extra.. MAKE SURE the gasket surfaces are FLAT, CLEAN (with sandpaper/machining/wire brushing..etc.. and clean with brake cleaner and then acetone... If the surfaces(head and block) are smooth, defect free and you use the proper torque sequence and settings (+10%), you should not have a problem..BUT, here is what I use..

New GM 383 stroker Replc'd head/intake gask.Still have 1lb coolant pres.drop after 1hr. Friend suggested GM coolant seal additive.Suggestions? What kind additive. New eng small amt oil in pan @ 3hrs.

Hey Chris,
Sounds like you may have a leak at the head gasket/intake manifold interface...
..If you used a silicone based sealant..that is probably the problem... silicone is NOT the "cure all" its made out to be.. I ONLY use for waterproofing on marine applications...NEVER on automotive engines..(except to help waterproof wire connections)
This is what most engine builders use on their gaskets...s pray it on. it remains tacky.. and seals well!!
Correct bolt tightening pattern/sequence is MANDATORY.. and a little at a time until you reach final torque settings.. you can add 5% to the final torque settings..NO MORE..

Does the stop leak work by swelling the rubber seals or by detecting air and stopping up the leak?

It depends what sort of stop leak you're talking about. There's different types.

Something for a leaking windshield rubber works by filling a gap and then becomes hard, similar to how bathroom sealant works.

An oil stop-leak works by penetrating and 'refurbishing' -swelling- dried gaskets and then hardening when it contacts the air on the outside of the engine block.

Some types of coolant sealant work by allowing particles to congregate/collect around a small hole in a radiator, blocking the hole. The particles harden due to the air/heat to form a plug. This type of sealant can also block your heater matrix, and they do not repair rubber hoses (hoses must be replaced if leaking).

A cylinder head sealant works by either depositing particles in a small crack in the head or gasket, or in the case of a modern head sealant, it uses polymers.

If you have a slight oil leak - slight - on an engine or auto box, try a sealant. If it's anything more than a slight weep, then gasket/seal replacement is the best option.

K&w block sealant does it work

All block sealers will work for MINOR seepage of head gaskets beyond that gasket replacement is suggested.

I have a pontiac and i keep blowing head gasket on number one cylinder. I have installed new heads and gasket lasted about five years. I was wondering what the correct head bolt torque is for a 1995...

cylinder head bolts, step one;33 ft. lbs, second step rotate an additional 90-degrees (1/4 turn). do not put any oil or sealant on gasket. the gasket should seal itself if torqued properly.

Conflicting/confusing answers. FRUSTRATED!

If you don't know the extent of the damage do not add any kind of sealers to your motor. It doesn't have to be a blown head gasket. It could be a cracked head. If you add those products you need to understand that they are last ditch efforts to get a little more time out of a motor. After that you can expect to change the entire motor, radiator and the heater core, just to get those off the shelf remedies back out of your vehicle.

Intake to head bolt torque

Intake bolt torque is 11-14 foot pounds. Note:
to torque bolts & nuts, start in center using
crisscross pattern working outward. And as Far as the sealant goes, you shouldn't need any additional sealant since the new gasket has sealant.(just make sure both surfaces are clean an free of oil.) sometimes if the head or the block show signs of pitting on the matteing surfaces then you could use a litttle of that cooper spray gasket to coat the new gasket.
