Question about 1999 Dodge Ram
1- A crank shaft sensor has to work so it can give electrical to the primary coil then the secondary coil output will have spark at plugs.
2- The electronic ignition module has to work to give electrical signal at the primary coil to have spark at the secondary coil output.
3- The ignition coil has to work to give the spark
Before jumping in and starting replacing parts, we can test to see if from the primary coil terminal work to the spark plug. Once you are sure all is working from the primary coil to the plugs then have a shop to diagnose the other 2 items.
You can manually test by doing the following:
Disconnect battery cables first.
Run wires from battery terminal of the primary connection of the coil. Make sure to take off original connection from the primary coil terminals.
Connect a spark plug to the secondary coil terminal.
Now make pulses on an off at the primary coil terminals to have spark at the secondary coil terminal.
If you don't have spark at the secondary coil terminal then your coil is bad.
If you have spark then there is a problem at either item 1 or 2 or a combination of both.
