Question about 1997 Nissan Sentra

1 Answer

Well, I checked the oil the day before, it showed I was low on oil on the dipstick, was planning on getting oil tommorrow. I drove about a half hr from my home, when I got to my desitnation the car was smokin, I checked under the hood and checked the dip stick again, didnt show any oil on the stick and there was oil all over the motor on the left side. I added 4 liters of oil then drove home, it still drips underneath but I think thats from all the oil around the motor, what else or where else would the oil come from? Could it be the oil filter, had an oil change beginning of the year, and was planning on doing it again in the coming weeks. As I have just moved and spent a great deal of money I have to time such expenditures.

YOUR pcv valve is no good. It allows crankcase pressure to build up and oil will come out of your antennae if you drove it hard enough. Replace the pcv valve.

Good Luck, I hope that takes care of it. You can check and change it yoursel so you can use the car. The pcv valve is a check valve located in the valve cover, top of engine and it sticks in a ghole with a hose attached to it that is about 1/2 in in diameter. In fact, it should be the only hose sticking something in the valve cover. Pull that hose out of the hole and the metal thing on its end is the pcv valve. Pull it out of the hose and go get a new one, the very same thing. Have a friend take you to the car psrts store. You really shouldn't drive until this is done. While you are at it, you may want to put a can of stp in the engine just in case running out of oil started something with the brgs. The Stp can come out on the next oil chage. The pcv valve is about 1" long and has a small end for the hose and large end that goes in the valve cover. Shake the old one, it should rattle but not plugged up or stuck shut. After putting everything together and putting oil in the engine, start the engine and see that you have vacuum oat the end of the pcv valve you just installed. Happy trails. The valve itself is a few dollars

Where is the valve lifter oil filter located on the 04 Yukon XL SLT 2500 6.0L V8 4X4 ? How do you get it out?

It's low or out of oil do not run engine check and add oil to fill on dipstick. Oil filter location depends on make and model your local auto parts store can point it out. But don't even start it till you get oil up to full

Oil leak from dipstick

You don't give the make model and year, but I would say you are right in your guess the problem is venting. The hose to the air cleaner could have frozen closed for one example.
You could damage the engine bearings and the oil pump running the engine low on oil.

The other day my car started making a whirring type noise, we checked the trans fluid and there was none on the dipstick, so we put a half a quart of ATF+4 in it and drove about 3 blocks and it was still...

You should check the level when the transmission is hot.
Park the car on a level surface and take the trans through all the gears
Put in park and with engine running check the level.
If low fill until reaches teh FULL mark on the stick

How much motor oil do i need for my ford f350 how many gal

if it is a gas engine it should use 5 quarts, unless it has a heavy duty oil cooling system, then it may need up to seven quarts. Fill the motor with the first five quarts, the check the oil level with the oil dipstick. If its still low add one half of a quart at a time while checking level each time you add a half quar untill it show full on the oil dipstick..

Smoking auto tranny

I had a similar problem with my ford 1/2 ton pulling a trailer on a grade against the wind on hot day. thought I completely fried the tranny. Let it cool off, continued the trip and drove the truck for years with no more problems. Can't explain how your dip stick was dry however. The dipstick should have been wet with foamed trans oil.

Engine sounded noisy & scratchy when i drove to school oil light on. Got back to car after 10 mins everything came on (radio etc) but when i went to turn it over everything just cut out like dead...

after the vehicle cooled completely and all the oil drained down it showed half full? that would mean it was anywhere from 2 to 2.5 quarts low? unless you mean that it showed halfway up the full / safe area on the dipstick.

the oil light being on usually means low oil or low oil pressure, if the vehicle still doesn't try to start after it is completely cool then you might have a locked up engine or multiple problems, check the oil again now that it has been sitting awhile look for water in the oil also check for oil in the water.

check battery connections again, make sure they are tight, if lights and such work then try to get a jump from someone. even new batteries can go bad

I would definitely be worried about that oil light though.

good luck and I hope this helps.

My 2003 g35 infiniti won't start oil low

I really doubt if your motor siezed up while sitting there. But your battery could have gone dead, or your stater may have locked up, or a battery cable is loose or dirty.
