I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado. Occasionally when I turn the key to start it nothing happens. I have power, all lights come on. There are no noises or anything. If I use the remote starter, it works.

sounds like the ignition control switch has gone bad. all light will come one but if you turn to start and nothing happen but works with remote starter then the first thing to get checked is the ignition control switch.

do the interior cab light come on? can you turn the headlights on? Could be a faulty ignition switch, but really need more info.

1986 Chevy silverado k20 4x4 3/4 ton pickup will not start. No noise, no turn over, nothing. It is not the battery or cables. There is a relay in engine compartment on driverside fenderwall that clocks...

I'm not sure about the relay either, don't recall ever seeing one on any of my trucks. It's possible that your starter isn't grounding on the motor. To check use a big screwdriver or wheel wrench and ground the starter case to the frame rail and try to start the truck. If that works, run a cable from the bolt on the front of the case to the frame. There are also 2 fusible links in the wire harness down at the starter. One of them will create the symptoms you are having. The other will kill power to everything except the engine. They look like a black rubber plug on the wire, about 1/2 inch long and 1/4 inch thick. Cut them out and splice the wires back together. Do them one at a time. This should work. If you want to put the fusible link back in, then splice in a short piece of wire 2 sizes smaller than the one with the link. Hope this helps.

79 chevy k10 starter problems

Fusible Links

The engine compartment wiring harness has several fusible links. The same size wire with a special hypalon insulation must be used when replacing a fusible link.
The links are located in the following areas:
  1. A molded splice at the starter solenoid Bat terminal, a 14 gauge red wire.
  2. A 16 gauge red fusible link at the junction block to protect the unfused wiring of 12 gauge or larger wire. This link stops at the bulkhead connector.
  3. The alternator warning light and field circuitry is protected by a 20 gauge red wire fusible link used in the battery feed to voltage regular #3 terminal. The link is installed as a molded splice in the circuit at the junction block.
  4. The ammeter circuit is protected by two 20 gauge fusible links installed as molded splices in the circuit at the junction block and battery to starter circuit.
Other things it MIGHT be are the ignition switch, located on top of the steering column:

The other thing it MIGHT be is a faulty ignition cylinder (where your key goes into to start the K10).

Check the wire harness on the steering column also.
