Tip for beginners
The 4 litre oil bottle is way too much oil for an engine to handle.
If you have a full 4 litre oil plastic bottle square shape . hold the bottle on its side to pour the oil out slowly and smoothly.
Place a funnel in the dipstick hole of the transmission. It will need to be a fairly long funnel to ensure you do not overfill. Make sure your vehicle has a dip stick you check the transmission fluid . Do not put it in the hole you check the motor oil . If you find the right hole do not over fill and engine should be running idle while doing this NOT IN GEAR AND EMERGENCY BRAKE USED. May take three or four quarts of transmission fluid. Check every so often with your dip stick. Hope you car has a transmission dip stick. That is the only way I know and I have done it before.
is this a manual or automatic. manual trans take 80/90 weight gear oil and you fill it to the bottom of the fill hole. the amount depends on if your topping it up or changing all the oil. most take about 4 litres. at any rate fill to bottom of fill hole. if automatic you can use Dexron trans fluid or Honda trans fluid. fill until the level is within the add and full marks on the dip stick.
Most cars have a tube-like device with a removable fluid level checking "dip stick" in it connected to the transmission. The d stick has fluid level marks on its very tip showing low to full. You wipe the d stick clean insert it with the motor running in park gear. Insert and remove and take a look at the end of the d stick. Your looking for wetness of oil and this gives you the actual level of oil in the tranny. Compare the wetness to markings on the stick to tell if you need to add more ATF oil to the unit or not. Add a 3rd of a quart at a time and recheck until the wetness is at the full mark - if low on fluid. This dip stick and tube is usually spotted easily by looking for its special knob end - which can be yellow, red or have TRANS written on it somewhere around the motor area - and don't confuse the motor oil dip stick for the one you're looking for. Some cars have no such device. Checking then become a mechanics chore once the car is up on a lift. This link shows great products to assure years longer transmission life. Hope this helps. http://www.auto-tune-up-and-repair-options.com/Transmission-Help.html
Automatic? Through the hole where you check the trans fluid (dip stick). Warning: DO NOT OVERFILL!!! Overfill will likely result in damage to the trans and possibly a fire when the oil over heats and runs out of the dip stick hole and falls onto the hot motor.
Manual? There is a hole on the side of the box. Hole is plugged with a 1/2" pipe plug or similar. You will have to pump the 80- or 120 weight oil in as the hole is high on the box and will not allow you top put the container high enough to allow gravitity to assist you with this.
Manual transmissions rarely need oil ... remove the plug and put your finger into the hole. When you take your finger out ... there should be oil on it.
Get a funnel and pour tha fluid in the dip stick tube while the motor is running . Make saure its the transmission and not the oil dip stick . Most trans dip sticks are at the back of the motor
The transmission oil is located in the transmission. If you are looking for the dip stick, its on the engine and its written on the top of the stick. Do not mistake the oil dip for the transmission dip stick. It sounds as if you need someone to show it to you. Go to your nearest car parts and they will gladly show you the dip stick. I hope this was helpful.
there is no dip stick you have a fill plug and drain plug.the fill plug is the one higher up on the trans case. take out the fill plug and if it runs out the hole or you can touch the gear lube with tip of your finger in the fill hole its full. have a great day.
