Question about 1991 Jeep Wrangler

1 Answer

Something in the motor sounds like it's whistling when I accelerate. It is not usually a constant noise, but it sounds like a police car when I get to a stop sign or light. It doesn't do it all the time, just occasionally, but when it does, it sounds like a slide whistle.

That noise is usually a belt or an accessory driven by the belt. (Alternator, power steering, AC compressor.) Does it change pitch when you turn ac on or off? Does it change pitch when you turn the steering whhel all of the way to the right or left?

Locate radiator cap

A whistle noise is usually a vac leak.
The cap is where you fill the tank with coolant.

Grinding noise when accelerating. I drive a 1994 Toyota Tercel automatic, and last night I was cruising the highway at about 75 when my left front tire made a slipping sound, and after that I noticed a...

It sounds more like your wheel bearing. If you jack the car up in the front grab the tire at 12 and 6 and try to wiggle it. If there is movement that will prove to be your wheel bearing or your ball joint. If you have someone look under the car at the ball joint while you do it, you can single out the ball joint and tell if all the play is in your wheel bearing. Usually CV shafts are pretty resilliant, unless they click when you turn the teeth in them should be ok. They will whistle thought if there is no grease in the boot. IF one of your boots are torn and the grease is gone then you can look at the CV shaft. But as far as grinding that is something thats broken or lack of lubrication. Check the CV, but be sure to check the wheel bearing, and make sure the brakes are ok. Unfortunately without being there it makes it a little difficult to be positive. Thanks.

a whistling noise will be a vacuum leak from some point. The Escapes are known for having vacuum issues in the rear of the engine due heat caused from the motor. The lines dry and crack out.

Whistling noise when accelerating

you most likely have an aftermarket radio installed
the noise you hear is engine noise, if yo turn your radio off it will go away
this can be fixed by either getting better wiring for your aftermarket radio or by installing a noise filter, you can purchase that at most big electronic stores

Whistleing sound on golf gt tdi

It's probably the turbo you're hearing. They spin very fast and make a noise like that. Ever hear an 18-wheeler go by you and accelerate and they make that high-pitched whistle? That's the turbo spooling up. Now, if it sounds like a dentist's drill, that's usually a sign that the turbo is failing, but I'd bet that since your car is under four years old, as long as you've kept up on the maintenance, it's the normal turbo spool.
