Sometimes starts right up,other times cranks like no spark or fuel

    No check engine light,no codes etc. Put key in all lights come on and go off as supposed to. Starts right up or gets cranks and not start.Like out of fuel or no spark. Been told to get a new key,or could be relays,ecm,ignition switch etc.

Hello I have had problems like this in the past with this year car. First off does it give you more problems when the weather is damp (like rain, fog, early morning,) most of the time I have found it to be the crank shaft sesor in the front of engine up by crank shaft. I had one customer who would have is car towed in and we would walk out and it would start right up. After 3 times of this I made a house call when it would not start and caught the sensor not giving proper resistance. Replace his cranksensor and never had the problem again, I have since just changed the crank sensor when a customer has this problem and we have checked fuel pressure. It cured all the cars that had this complaint

    Hello again fingazz 2 is right no crank sensor I misread your post and thought car was 99. (go figure I must be getting blind) LOL. I still think sensor. If cam sensor is faulty spark will just drop off. when your car goes into this no start mode do you have fuel pressue at rail. (schrader valve or thing that looks like a valve stem)should have 40+ psi (by estimate no book in front of me now) cam sensor also control the fuel pump relay. cycle key to off and on (not start) do you hear fuel pump run? If not go to fuel pump relay. pull relay out check to see with key on where you positive wire is ( I do not have diagram in front of me now) You can do this with circuit tester (test light) . jump fuel relay from positive 12 volt to pump positive wire on relay plug in (piece of wire will work. Does pump run? If not you have a pump problem. If it does you have a spark/sensor problem. there are more things that can be checked like positive and Neg to ECM. Signal from sensor to ecm to kick off injector body. I am just trying to get you headed in right direction. Fuel pressure first No pressure check pump, If pump works check relay if relay good, check sensor if sensor good, check + - input to ECM if inputs good check ECM output (Both pos neg ) check wires to injector body If injector wire good it has to be in throttle body or injectors.( not sure which you have). You can snap off injectors by grounding injector wire to ground and listening for the click of injector. Hope I have headed you in right direction.

Well i red a little of this and the other guy said crankshaft sensor. he might have meant the camshaft sensor because this car doesn't have a crankshaft sensor and he is right on about it being a problem with these cars. the only thing is it is in the distributor and the best way it to get a new distributor because the ignition module gets damage from heat also and the distributor comes with it. so that is the best guess andbest way to do the repair.!

98 chrysler sebring sat w/out running for 4 years cranks but wont start any suggestions as to what is the problem or what to do to make it start


I would have probably given it a total tune-up, first, checked all the fluids. New antifreeze. Changed the oil and filter. Drained the gas tank, used fresh gas. Pulled the spark plugs and belt, put a drop or two of oil in each cylinder, then turned the crank by hand before trying the starter motor.
Then, if it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you visually check for spark at the spark plugs. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Also, check fuel injector pulse. Any applicable trouble codes?

91 chevy cav z24 5 spd will not start @ times sounds like no fire other times sounds like no fuel.Replaced fuel pump,timing chain, crankshaft sensor,oil sensor,map sensor,body throttle accel sensor.st


Pull the air cleaner off and crank the engine. If puffs of air come come out of the throttle body when cranking the engine then the timing is not set correctly. Otherwise, after cranking pull a spark plug and see if it is wet with fuel and if so this indicates an ignition problem (coil, distributor/cap/rotor or faulty ECU).

98' jeep starts sometimes


The next time it fails to start, you'll need to start crossing off the possible causes. Is it lack of fuel or lack of spark ? Is the asd relay working, and so on. Once you narrow down the causes you can troubleshoot it better.

first you need to test for spark if there is spark then check for fuel if there iis no spark have your ignition module ckecked for fuel take the lifuel line off from fuel tank to fuel lilter it is not difficult.

4.3L V6 CPI - center port fuel injection . you need 62 psi .When cold give it a shot of carb.cleaner or starting fluid ! does it start then ?

sounds like a Crank Position sensor. It's hitting at random instead of in tune with where the crank is at any given time. So I say "Yep" to your question "Maybe a new crank sensor?" : )

1995 AUDI 90 CS - Hard to start... spark & fuel OK


Have you tried replacing the starter? I know starters can go bad if the car is not started or run for a long time.

I am getting the same car, with the same issue.. it sat for 2 yrs and won't start.

My mechanic told me it is probably a starter.

Sometimes wont start


it may have a bad check valve in the fuel pump try this when it has to crank for a long time to start turn key off wait 5 seconds turn key on wait 10 seconds and rpeat 3 times if it starts right up the problem is the check valve in the fuel pump if not you need to find out if it si spark or fuel but sounds like it is the check valve sticking in the fuel pump
