Radiator fan keeps running when ignition off

This is normal on many vehicles, so it is a question of how long does it stay running, and if your engine is hotter than normal, so you need to check enginer operating temperature first if this is unusual in your normal driving pattern. Usually fans will only run a few minutes after turning off engine on hot day as example. Check your radiator water level if this never happened before.

I've turned ignition off yet can hear fan running at front of engine for a minute or two after

Hello Stephen,

So long as it is just a minute, or two that is fine, no problem whatsoever. I have had problems with some Fords which utilise the Bosch smart fan via CAN bus systems, but this normally causes the fan to start at 3 4ths speed indelicately on switching the ignition on, even when stone cold. The fan isn't running from cold in the morning is it.. As in, before you even start the engine..

Radiator fan will not shut off

In some vehicles, the radiator cooling fan is controlled independently by a thermostatic switch. What you perceive as a problem actually is normal operation. When the temperature reaches a certain point, the fan turns on. When you stop and turn off the ignition, the fan continues to run until the temperature decreases to a point where the fan turns off

Once the engine is warmed up (temperature gauge in normal range), the cooling fans begin operating at high speed and never shut off until ignition turned off. Fans never run after ignition turned off.

It sounds like the cooling fan relays are latching on. The contacts are probably partially welded and sticking closed so hard the recoil spring to pull them open again is too weak to do so. Change the relay(s).

Why does my fan keep running in my 2003 Volvo S 60 after the car is off?

It can be faulty fan relay. The relay is not turning the system off.Or its wire short issue.Even with ignition off ,the fan relay is getting power so its not letting the fan to turn off.Bypass the fan control relay and see if still the fan works with ignition off or not.

2007 Mercedes Benz R 320 blower fan comes on when ignition is shut off

If you're talking about the radiator fan and it's electric, then it's normal for it to run after ignition is turned off. Fans will typically run for a few minutes to cool down the radiator coolant then shut off automatically.

Coolant fan continues to run while van is off......

most modern vehicles have fans that can run for 5-10 minutes after the ignition has been turned off if the engine is hot.
if the fan runs for more than 15-20 minutes there may be a problem with the temperature sensor for the fan.
this would normally be located on the side of the radiator and is fairly easy to change.

if you need more detailed instructions on changing this then please feel free to ask, but if the fan turns itself off within 10-15 minutes then there is probably nothing to worry about.

1991 honda accord lx cooling fan

Some vehicles have sensors that can control the electric fan with the ignition off to keep the heat buildup that naturally occurs right after turning off the engine. This can prevent hard starting that can happen with a hot engine. If it is doing this an abnormal amount, the sensor that is operable with the ignition off may be failing. Before turning off the ignition, check to see if the engine temperature is pushing the 'red zone;' if it is, then the fan operation may be normal but your engine may be running hot.

Cooling fan always comes on after the car is turned off

this is normal. The fans are thermostatic controled. When you park your car and the engine is not running and not circulating water the temp. will come up and the fans will come on and cool the water down. Make sure you check your water level in the radiator and expansion tank. AFTER the car has cooled down.
