Question about 1996 Ford F150 Regular Cab

1 Answer

My 1996 F150 with the 300ci, 4.9liter inline 6 with auto trasns.and overdrive gets terrible gas mileage.12-13 mpg. Doesn't trip any trouble codes, ox sensors all tested good. Had the truck 3 years now. Don't know what to expect for mileage but sure didn't expect it to be this bad

Your milage won't get much better than around 20 mpg at the best of times but you may have a partially plugged resignater or catalytic converter.you can check these with a digital thermomiter by checking temps. in and out of these, they should be close to the same.

The average gas mileage of a 2001 venture is 20 mpg. 17 city and 24 highway. This is on a 6 cylinder 3.4 liter engine. Your tank capacity is 20 gallons. Depending how many miles you drive on your trip is how much you should fill up for one way.

1989 Jeep Cherokee all of a sudden is getting terrible gas mileage! Like FIVE miles to the gallon! The exhaust pipe is broken. could that be the cause?

if you drive with holes in the system...you lose power and put strain on the vehicle to perform better and it gets loud and your gas mileage will get worse and worse...so fix it or have someone do it. it's 15mpg normally

Buick regal 92 3.8L Horrible fuel mileage

Sounds like you might have an oxygen sensor problem. Your catalytic converter(s) maybe defective or dirty. That in turn can dirty up the oxygen sensor. A defective oxygen sensor will send faulty info to the computer, interpreting the fumes as cold (even when the engine warms up). That causes the computer to adjust the fuel mixture to very rich, giving you poor gas mileage and the fuel smell. Hope it helps.

You might try replacing the thermostat. Hows the heater work? That will give you a clue. A stuck or defective thermostat will cause poor fuel mileage and poor heater performance. This vehicle needs a
192-195 degree thermostat to operate correctly.

2001 buick lesabre. will not go into overdrive. sounded like

I have the same exact issue. In when shifter is in overdrive position it makes a whirring noise that sounds like a bad auto transmission. Also the Gas mileage at 65 has dropped about 6 MPG. I found yesterday that if i put the shifter in 3 instead of OD it doesn't make the noise. I am guessing that i will need to enlist a transmission specialist to fix the overdrive thing but in the meantime it doesn't sound like it is causing an issue in 3 and the gas mileage is improved...

BAD ON GAS

You should be getting close to 360-390...depending on the type of driving you are doing. Increasing your gas mileage could be as simple as getting a fresh oil and filter job, change your air filter, change your fuel filter...and a biggie believe it or not, make sure you have the proper tire pressure. This will kill your mileage faster than anything else.

City MPG: 16-18 mpg
Combination MPG: 18-21
Highway MPG: Approximately 26 mpg
