  • Yes, I have seen the switch. But nothing changes when I switch back and forth. No light on the dashboard either. So I don't know if the transmission is in normal or power.

Their is a power and normal drive in trooper's power for pulling a trailer and normal for normal driving. The power drive only changes gear at higher R.P.M. Their is a switch on the plastic cover under the handbrake with p & n their is a light in the dash as well. If you are not aware of this switch then just needs switching over if you are aware of it then its probably the fuse to activate it or a wiring problem with it, Cheers

It's so long now since I have worked at one I can't remember which position on the switch is normal. If you have the owners manual or know anyone who has one it should have the the fuse pattern you should check the fuse. If the fuse has gone then something caused it. Replace the fuse with one the same amp's and try it. If the fuse blow's again then check for a problem with wires connections etc.

On my 1997 Isuzu Trooper Limited the Power/Normal switch is always reset to normal when you turn on the ignition and start your car. Press it once for Power setting and again to revert back to normal. If the light is working on your dash it should light "Power" (in orange light). when you turn on the ignition the dash lights should all light up briefly too indicate the bulbs work. If this light does not come on during test just use my instructions. You should notice it will downshift for higher revs/torque with less force on the gas pedal in Power mode. Good Luck.

does the speed change at all? does the speedometer if you noticed is working? if the speedo is not working then the problem is your speed sensor on the gear box is not working and that is the reason the automatic transmission stayed on safe mode. renew the speedo and will work ok.

Cant shift in to 2nd gear but all other gears

Is it a Manual Transmission or Automatic? If it's a manual, it sounds like your syncro's are going out on your transmission for 2nd gear. You will probably need a rebuild or replacement.

Automatic transmission shifts gears without input.

Get a selector switch, mounted on the side of the transmission. They gave a lot of trouble.

Auto-trans problems can be complex and difficult to fix. Better to have a professional transmission shop have a look at it.
