2000 Pontiac Grand Prix 2 dr. w/ supercharger Loud chinging/rattling noise from under neath Meineke replaced flex motor pipe? which included the catalytic converter after a week the noise started again the people at meineke said they couldnt find anything wrong. the noise is not all the time. only when accelerating or if I've been at a red light or stop sign you can hear it as I pull off. It kind of sounds like a metal noise like metal sliding across metal or vibrating.

Hello! First of all, congrats on owning a great car! That engine (3.8L Series II L67) is without a doubt one of the finest GM (Buick) has ever produced!

On to your problem - I think you have one of 2 things wrong:

1) a loose heat shield
2) a broken exhaust hanger

Both of these will cause intermittent (and highly annoying) rattling sounds, especially at low speeds or when the engine is under load (like going up a hill for instance). There are 2 hangers under the car located almost directly under the front floorboard. These are prone to breakage. There is also a heat shield in this same area - that is very prone to coming loose. If it's the heat shield - you can either remove it - or have it tack welded. If the hanger(s) are broken, you will need to take it to an exhaust shop (unless you know a welder :) ) and have those fixed - shouldn't cost you more than $20 either way.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Have the knock sensor check and run 93 octane full tank and see if that noise goes away.

Can i put the supercharger off a 3.8 0n a 3.1 pontiac grand prix se?

Hi Jake, Your question is not very clear. If you're talking about removing a supercharger from an engine designed for a supercharger and fitting it to a smaller engine designed to operate with a supercharger, you'll need to check pressures and computer controls. If you're asking about fitting it to an engine not designed to be supercharged, it would require a full rebuild, using parts designed for the job. I say it is not a good idea, as the engine will probably blow. Both superchargers and turbochargers are air compressors which force air into the combustion chamber under pressure, meaning the engines have especially designed parts. Regards John

2004 pontiac grand prix supercharger make a whining noise power streering is full

Hello
All superchargers get pretty noisy make sure that the supercharger is full small allen head inspection plug next to the supercharger pully, the next thing to do would be to remove the supercharger belt and start it and see if the whinning goes away if it does then it is the supercharger making the noise. I wouldn't rule out any of the other pulleys making the noise remove the other belt and make sure that all of the other pulleys spin freely and make no noise when you spin them by hand.
Good luck
Chris

I have a 2003 Grand Prix GTP and when I start the car there is a loud metal-on-metal screaming noise coming from the supercharger area. I assume this is bad news for the supercharger but is it safe to...

Have it towed as the blower has probably lost one or more bearings. If metal shavings enter the cylinders, there could be serious damage there as well. Good luck!

1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Supercharger coupler

The rattle you are/were hearing is typical on the Eaton blowers. After they get some miles on them, the coupler wears out and the holes become ob-longed or out of round which causes the rattle you are hearing.
Usually at idle you can hear it very clearly.
I have changed a few, and they are pretty simple to change. Just take off the supercharger belt, then you may have to remove your alternator bracket, depends on which years, drain the supercharger oil with a spray bottle sprayer (it does stink badly) then just remove the 10 or so bolts that hold the snout to the housing. Remember to keep track of where they go, some are different lengths.
You may have to use a rubber mallet, or your hand to hit the snout around to break the gaskets loose. Pull off the old black hockey puck looking thing (coupler) clean out the snout, attach new coupler, then reassemble and put new supercharger oil back in, and your rattle will be gone, at least for another 100k miles.
Best place to get a coupler is at,

Costs about 30, plus the few bottles of oil for the supercharger.
