2005 audi A6 intermittent tail light failure

I too am experiencing intermittent tail light failures. Not sure if its coincidental however all problems started when i removed and replaced blown left license plate bulb. Now I get random left reverse light out, rear fog light out, left rear parking light out. I have replaced all bulbs tho it didnt seem needed then cleaned all contacts to ensure proper contact...what is going on here and a possible fix? It seems to be a fairly common issue and i hopeful for a fairly easy fix....

I can't solve this problem, but have had the entire left tail light unit on a 2005 A6 replaced under warranty 5 times in 3 years. Once it was out of warranty, the dealer kept replacing bulbs and charging me $30 each, but it never solved the problem, even for a day (clearly looking to duck their lifetime guarantee on work they did).

I have no Audi experience, but the symtoms indicate a loose ground connection[s] consult a shop manual or trace wires from lights to a connection screwed to the body panel or frame, check for looseness or corrosion.

Audi A6: Bulb Failure: Dipped Head light or tail light

Can you provide a bit more detail about what you're trying to do, and if you've checked the bulbs to be sure none are out? Other than that, it sounds like your headlights aren't alligned correctly.

How do I remove rear tail lights on 2008 A6 S-Line

open the trunk and take the carpet panel off that is right behind tail lights. it is held on with plastic like wing nuts and you will have access to the screws that hold them on. you have to do it all from inside trunk.

My 2005 Audi A6's right brake light and blinker intermittently stop working. I've taken the tail light assembly off, the bulb looks good, and cleaned all of the contacts and it still does it. Could it be...

It is the LED componet in the taillight, not the bulbs that are replaceable. I had the same problem and only solution is to replace the entire assembly.

Audi A6 2005 LH Rear Turn Signal & Brake Light Failure

I had a problem with rear left side signal brake and reversing lamps not working on my 2007 A6 2.L Tdi SE.( Intermittent fault for 2 months)
I think I have identified the problem.
The seal between the Lens and the bulb plate had allowed moisture into the lamp.
During sunny days the water evaporates and enters the multi pin connector at the rear of the lamp.
On close examination of the connector I noticed minor discolouring of the ground ( Heavy Brown Wire connector Causing intermitting lamp failure )
I expelled all moisture from the lamp and multi-pin connector.
I removed the neoprene seal from the lamp and refitted it good side up
I cleaned the ground pin on the connector with 600 grade paper and contact cleaner
I put a slight twist in this pin with long nose pliers so as to get better connection.
Lamp is working fine since.
Changing the bulb plate may also work
Great care must be taken when changing bulbs or this problem will reoccur

Not sure

Do you get a flashing ABS light or BRAKE light along with the beeps? If so, this is indicative of an ABS failure, which is either a wheel speed sensor or (much more likely) the ABS controller. I've had an ABS/wheel speed sensor fail on my A4 and I had no beeping, but people I know have had the beeps and had to replace or rebuild the ABS module. If you do have this problem, go to and call them - they can rebuild the ABS module for a couple hundred dollars give or take, versus several times that cost for a new one.

If you are only getting the beeping, but not the lights flashing, it could still indicate this failure, but Audi usually has the cars set up to indicate what is wrong by flashing lights as well as the beeping, to help you see what the problem is.
