There is no dip stick on grand am if it is the 3.4 v6. You need to raise the car up so that you can safety get under the is a bolt on trans a couple of inches above the pan you take bolt out and add fluid until it trickles out of the hole. This has to be done while the car is running.

SOURCE: where would i check the trans fluid on a 99 grand

Believe it or not, your transmission is a closed case transmission. You have a plug just above the drain plug on the transmission that you remove to check the fluid level. This is also where you service it. It is like servicing a differential on a truck. Call a transmission shop to verify. I guarantee you this is the only way how.

You have to pump fluid in until it seeps out.

SOURCE: How to add Auto Trans fluid to 1999 VW Beetle & what kind of fluid

Been there tried that. The unit is more or less sealed. You will need to go to a VW dealer to have the fluid checked and added, if required. Be very careful, there's an entry port on the top of the transmission that some cables/wires go through. If you break this seal there is no simple fix. It costs about $700 to have it replaced by the dealer.

You don't. It's a closed system and only a dealer can do it. Tip* never buy a automatic VW.

How much gear oil does the transfer case on a 1999 jeep grand cherokee

You will need to buy three quarts but you won't use all of it. Make sure that you can open the fill plug BEFORE you drain it to avoid problems. After draining, replace the drain plug and fill with Dexron III or Dex/Mercon (both are automatic trans fluids). Fill on a level surface 'till the fluid reaches the bottom lip of the fill plug. For severe service, I always replace part of the trans fluid with Lucas trans conditioner.

In my Grand Marquis 1999 while i am driving suddenly o/d off light is flashing what is the problem, is that possible to be transmission oil ? thanks

Not the trans fluid

Oil only cools, lubes & applies pressure to
the clutch drums & bands

You change trans & power steering fluid
every 3 years or 30,000 miles on ALL Vehicles

Changing trans fluid DOES NOT FIX ANYTHING

You have to have the OD light issue diagnosed

you can check the tranny fluid by raising the car evenly and removing the check bolt on the side of the transaxle, if it dribbles out a little, its fine, if not you need to add fluid (through the red cap you found)

There is no trans dipstick on the 3.4 grand am. There is only a fill cap and its located under the throttle body and air box boot. To check the trans level you really need to go to a garage and have them do it. The reason for this is because the only way to check if the trans is full is to take the bolt out that's located on the bottom of the trans about 2 inches up from the bottom. When the trans is full of fluid it will start to seep out that bolt hole. This all has to be done with the engine running and level.

Possible transmission problem?...Jeep Grand Cherokee 1999...seems like engine disengages or slips...only happens when all of these conditions are happening, 1. accelerating 2. turning to the left only 3....

Pretty good chance the trans is low on fluid...have you checked that? Otherwise, it is possible that you have a worn shaft seal that when side-loaded it could be allowing fluid to internally bypass. As that condition is extremely rare, I'd go with checking the fluid and possibly changing it and the filter before worrying too much about it, but you need to check that now as each time it happens it removes important material from the internal clutches.
Also...if low, check for leaks...fluid went somewhere!

I have a playmouth grand voyager 1999 3L,my transmission will not shift up in gear.On drive or reverse it goes well but will not shift.I think it could be an electrique problem, cause the transmission looks...

Your trans is stuck in safe mode, you are only using 2nd gear, this means it is not shifting but staying at a gear so you will not damage the trans. This is an electrical setting , however usually comes from the computer receiving bad information , rough shift, however it can be reset. Remove the positive battery cable for 30 minutes then see if it shifts, also check your fluid level, it can go into safe mode from low fluid if you made a turn and the trans slipped from low fluid . If your trans goes back into safe mode again have it checked, most important, do not drive over 45 mph or allow your rpms to raise over 3 , I have seen many motor problems that spawned from this type of trans problem, if not corrected.

Good Luck

First things first...check your fluids! Automatic trans. fluid : park brake applied, engine running in park, check dip stick. Fluid should be at full mark and brite red with no smell of burn. Report back with fluid condtions, a little leg work goes a long ways...

Transmission fliud

To check the trans fluid you have to have car on a lift or over a pit (like at oil change place) so it is level.

On the lower pass. side of trans. right near the rt. front drive axle there is a small plug (takes 7/16" wrench) Pull plug and fuild should run out W/ engine hot and running.

If you need to add there is a red cap on the driver side top of the trans right at the back of the engine. Unscrew cap and fill thru small hole.
