I took off the brake caliper but i cant take off the rotor

Most of the time, they will rust on to the hub. Its a pin in the ***, i used a rubber mallet, and some wd40 to get it. Took a while but it worked. Mine even had the tire rusted on to the hub.

AND ! sometimes they don't come off at all. So be careful and don't get too persistant. Your safefest move when you come across something like this is to take a drive dow to the parts store you are dealing with and ask them to show you the part. In this case, The rotor assembly. Some rotors come with anintegrated one piece hub and rotor with the bearing cups already installed. Put down the hammer and go. Good Luck, Ned

Take a close look at each lug bolt, Chrysler usually puts small retaining clips on to keep the rotor in place. Just take a screw driver and pop them off. They won't be on all the lug bolts, if I remember correctly it's 2 or 3 of them. If there are no clips on the lug bolts take a rubber malet from the backside and break it free, sometimes the rotors will corode a bit and stick to the hub.

The rotor is rusted on spray some penetrating oil around the hub .Then take a big hammer and just smack the rotor on the surface that the pads ride on . I use a 3 pound hammer myself:)

Removing the front rotors on my k3500 chevy truck


if you took the tire, brake caliper and everything off and you are replacing the rotors then spray some wd-40 or pb blaster around the lug nut bolts and the center and let it set and work into it. if you cant wiggle it off then take a regular hammer and smack the back of the rotor. sometimes the rust and brake dust will build up and cause it to stick.

Front brake
Step 1: Identify Front Disc Brake Components

Most front disc brake components include: brake rotor, brake pads, brake caliper, caliper mount and brake flex hose. Brake service usual occurs between 20,000 and 40,000 miles depending on driver habits, road conditions and brake pad/ rotor materials used.
Step 2: Remove Brake Caliper to Replace Pads

Removing Brake Caliper Mounting Bolts
Locate primary caliper mounting bolts; apply wrench pressure counter-clockwise (When looking at the head of the bolt) to remove the bolts, upper and lower. Make sure the bolt threads are in good shape and replace if necessary.
Step 3: Remove Front Brake Caliper

After removing the primary caliper mounting bolts lift the brake caliper off of the rotor and then tie or secure to the side, being careful not to bend or kink the brake caliper flex hose. Thoroughly inspect brake caliper and brake hoses for leakage, cracks or chaffing and replace as needed. Next remove the brake pads (If not mounted in the caliper) and secondary caliper mounting bolts. Notice how great protective gloves work, most technicians use them on the job today.
Step 4: Remove Brake Pads

Once the brake pads have been removed, make sure if there is anti rattle hardware to transfer to the new brake pads. Some brake pad manufacturers will include the proper lube (Caliper slides) and anti-rattle hardware to ensure proper performance of their product.
Step 5: Remove Caliper Mount

Finish removing secondary caliper mount bolts and remove caliper mount. Note: clean and lube caliper slides and pad friction surfaces of all foreign material or build-up.
Step 6: Remove Brake Rotor

With the caliper mount out of the way you can now remove the brake rotor. Sometimes it can get stuck so you may need to tap it with a hammer or use penetrating oil to free it up. Some manufacturers use small screws to hold the rotor on as well. Clean and inspect wheel studs, replace if any are damaged. Also clean bearing hub rotor mount surface to ensure the proper mounting of the new brake rotor. Inspect the ABS sensor wheel for cracks or damage and replace as needed.
Step 7: Depressing the Brake Caliper

Resetting Brake Caliper
To install the new brake pads you must retract the brake caliper piston. Remove the master cylinder lid or open the brake caliper bleeder screw to allow excess brake fluid to be released if necessary. Install C clamp tool and gently tighten clamp until caliper piston is fully depressed. Note: use old brake pad to protect the caliper piston. Close the bleeders once the piston is retracted completely
Step 8: Installing New Brake Rotor

Install new brake rotor, the new rotor is manufactured with a protective film over the rotor to keep it from rusting, remove protective film with brake cleaner before installing; also after the brake job is complete you may experience a small amount of smoke from the rotor when first used. This is normal and will go away after the first couple of uses.
Step 9: Installing New Front Brake Pads

Reinstall the front brake caliper mount, and then install front brake pads. Make sure the pads are seated properly in the caliper mount; it must be a close fit to work properly..
Step 10: Reinstall Front Brake Caliper

Re-Install front Bake Caliper
Reinstall front brake caliper and reinstall caliper-mounting bolts, recheck all mounts and mounting bolts. Check the caliper slides to be sure there is no bind and that the caliper moves freely back and forth on the caliper slides. Bleed brake system per manufacturer's specifications to relieve any air trapped in the system. Before driving the vehicle, push the brake pedal down and let it up slowly, repeat until normal brake pedal operation resumes, this operation is forcing the brake pads to travel to the brake rotors.

How do I change the front brakes


Jack the car up and take a tire off. You will see the brake caliper fitted over the rotor. You need to take the caliper off by using a 10mm socket, I believe. There are 2 bolts on the back side of the caliper that go through a rubber boot, one on top and one on bottom. Take those bolts out. Then the caliper should come right off. Don't let the caliper hang by the brake line. The brake pads are the flat 'C' shaped things that are on both sides of the rotor. Replace the pads. Then you will need a 5inch clamp to push the piston back in on the caliper. Position the clamp through C shaped opening on the front and the top of the clamp on the back side of the caliper. Be careful not to crimp the brake line. Tighten the clamp until the pistons are flush in the caliper and stop. Do not force the pistons in any further. Next, fit the caliper back over the rotor with the new pads on it and reinstall the 2 bolts you took out to start. Put the tire back on and tighten lugnuts accordingly. You will need to pump your brakes a couple times to get the pistons back out to the rotor and they may, at first, go right to the floor. Just pump them a couple times and they will get hard again. More than likely you have not fully compressed the caliper piston into the caliper. Take the old inner brake pad and clip it on back onto the piston. With a large clamp (one side on the back of the caliper behind the piston and the other on the face of the old brake pad) and compress the piton slowly by tightening the clamp. It needs to bottom out completely. Remove the clamp and old brake pad and install the new pads. Make sure that when you install the caliper to the rotor that the brake pads stay locked in position and it will slide over the rotors and fit snug.

Did you replace the rotor on the driver's side? If the rotor wasn't replaced or turned (to make the surface smooth again), the rotor may have chewed up the new brake pad.

The other possibility is that the caliper is not centering itself over the rotor, causing one side (outside) to do most of the braking. The caliper assembly has to be able to 'float' in order to keep itself centered. Check the guides that the caliper is mounted in for damage or corrosion that would keep the caliper from moving in/out.

Brake vibration


When the shuddering starts pull off the road way get out and feel the rotors on all 4 wheels. If any are very hot you have a caliper piston hanging and holding the brake pad too tight against the rotor.

Troubled brakes


TAKE IT TO THE DEALER, SINCE VEHICLE HAS ABS SYSTEM . THE BRAKES MAY NEED TO BE BLEED WITH DRB/SCANNER. OR YOU MAY HAVE LINES CLOGGED.

2004 Toyota Camry Brakes


Raise the vehicle up and remove the rims & tires

Remove the brake pads, and then remove the calipers from the caliper retention brackets, do NOT remove the brake hoses from the calipers.

Remove the caliper retaining brackets from the hub assemblies (2 large bolts on backside of the bracket)

Tap the brake rotors off of the hubs, hit them from the back side of the rotor.

No big mysteries here, this is a very easy job.
