Why is my ABS brake light staying on my vw jetta 2002

Normally when the light stays on there is a problem with the system. The light is telling you that and also the system is disabled.
Someone needs to scan the computer to get the trouble code(s).

Check & replace if necessary the brake pedal switch placed above pedals on the support.
If the problem still occurs you might access the Engine Control Module (ECM) using suitable diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) memored. Then you will be able to replace bad piece(s) and fix the problem by erasing all DTC's stocked inside ECM & reset it.

My temp light comes on and off mostly on and even dealership can't explain it, no temp. issues. but it has been on and off for 8 years. i have vw 2002 jetta tdi deisel. now my engine lite stays on. ...

I would take it to another dealer. If the dealer has a certified diesel mechanic and the proper scanning and diagnostic tools for a diesel engine, they should be able to tell you what the problem is. Sure, there are many functions that the ECM tracks but when the light comes on, a code is stored to tell the dealer EXACTLY what is malfunctioning. If he's using a scanning tool that's meant for gas engines, he wont be able to pinpoint your problem.

2002 vw jetta 2.0 code P0420

The error code definition reads:

"Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1"

It's possible it might be the oxygen sensor, but it's more than likely the catalytic converter. This is a relatively common code for VW's.

You can google "p0420" and see the posts...

it means solenoid ev7 electrical malfunction and you probably have faults in the ABS control module as well. unless you have a vag-comm you cant scan them in the ABS solenoid ev7 is a solenoid in the ABS block under the hood and there is no communication from the ABS control module and to the ECM

2002 Jetta MIL light comes on after start and stays on. Any idea of what this could be?

Your going to have to get your car scanned for the DTC codes. The Cars ECM has detected an issue by setting the MIL light to come on, It could be as simple as a faulty gas cap to a faulty O2 sensor, Good luck and Auto Zone scan free of charge.
