Question about 2000 Chevrolet Impala

3 Answers

Hi. My problem is that I'll be driving down the highway at 90 km/h and my car shuts down. I'll then pull over and shut the ignition off and start it again and continue on my way. I've had it in the shop, they tell me that there are no codes showing to indicate the problem. In the last six months I have had the oil changed, the resonator replaced, a new battery, and a fuel filter. Could the problem be the mass air flow sensor?

It sounds like your loosing electrical power going to the ecm or DIS mas air flow sensor will throw a code but most of the time electrical power losses won't because it thinks it's being shut off... As far as where to look Gm has some fuseable links that have cuased connection issues like this... It's not going to be easy to find....Sorry...

Check the ignition switch. if u have a lot of keys or keychains hanging with the key that starts your car it can pull on the ignition switch causing the connection to not be so good and the key will start to slide out a little bit. that could explain the car stopping and then starting when you start it again.

yes very much possible the ignition switch is getting Short so its causing the issue.Check the voltage at ignition switch. The power wire to the ignition switch harness are connected to battery and will give 12 volts. If there is no voltage then its loose connection. If there is short the voltage will differ. ---------thanks.Helpmech.

Intermittent shut down of Jaguar XJR while running

The fault is intermittent - strikes without warning - and I guess if there are no error codes - so the fault is beyond the reach of the computer sensors - change your high tension coil.

My truck just shuts off whenever it wants to. everyone does not know why! let me know if you have the same problem. thanks

could it be the ignition switch? My 97 shuts down while driving 40 on road or 70 on highway. It won't start for about 2-5 minutes after this happens and no check engine light. Im thinking about replacing the ignition switch from reading other peoples blogs and its been reported to the national safety of highway
