Question about 1999 Pontiac Montana
The engine sounds like it is missing when I accelerate. The check engine light came on and then started to flash. Any ideas?
Take it to autozone or parts store where they do free diagnostics. possible random missfire. you may need to replace your spark plugs and or wires.

Check engine light can be any numerous of things going wrong; the list goes on. Check engine light is one of the light everyones' hope to never see or have to deal with as long we own the vehicle. check the basic first, spark plugs and the coil and wires. O2 sensor may need replacing or air-mass flow sensor going bad. Coil, O2 sensor and air-mass flow sensor this parts their is no way checking them if their good or bad unless you have a spare one laying around or ohms test meter. I usually recommend take it to the dealer and spend 50-75 bucks for diagnostic, better off than buying parts and guessing hopping its the right parts wasting money on parts does not need to be replacing and can get very expensive, things can add up very quickly. By them plugging into the computer, it will give a mechanic a code and they can narrow down what need replacing, then you can buy the parts and do it your self. if you ned to replace air-mass sensor, look on ebay or get one from the junkyard, new will cost you arms and the legs. I believe auto zone give a free engine diagnostic, I would go there and see if they can retrieved the code, my opinion is they are not accurate has the dealer is however, it may something simple, worth check it out. hope that help some
