Question about 1991 Ford Econoline

1 Answer

I recently inherited a 1991 Ford Econoline van with a cracked manifold. The engine makes a sound sort of like firing a machine gun underwater. My father never got it fixed because of the difficulty and expense involved, I think. I know that removing a manifold from an older engine usually results in broken studs and other problems. What I am wondering is if this kind of thing can be welded? Or is there too much pressure? Might it work temporarily? (no I'm not going to try to sell it!) The engine is in good condition - does not use or burn oil. A mechanic told me he thought that the crack did not effect the engine's compression but I wonder about that because this truck seems very underpowered (it has a V-8), I'm not sure which size.

91 is not that old studs probably wont break -but if large crack would have to take off to weld cast and if off might as well change it if small crack friends and i have fixed using j-b weld but u have to take a small drill bit 1/16 or smaller and at each end of crack drill hole so crack wont expand any further wire brush area clean and try the cold weld let set for a couple of days.crack wont affect compression

1991 Ford Econoline Problem Starting

It may not have anything to do with the tank switch. It sounds like the check valve in the pump has failed. The valve prevents fuel pressure from draining back into the tank.

I need to find out how to replace the spark plugs in an 1991 ford econoline e350 van. from the inside the far plug from the right. my email address is

Yup, this is a job for miniture people. One or two of the plugs are almost totally blocked. you have to use many tricks to get the plugs out, and a new one back in, NOT so easy.Be very careful to not break the porcelain, VERY easy to do during this job. Sometimes you have to remove parts, and/or raise the engine for better access, Still a hard task.
Use rubber hoses to help thread new plugs...
Have fun, you will be at this for a while...

Also, inspect for broken exhaust manifold bolts, a result of manifold expanison and contraction. broken bolts usually come out pretty easy, as they were flexed to break and not rusted. New manifolds will be needed acouple of times during the life of this vehicle.

I recently replaced my starter on my 1996 Ford E150 Econoline. I am not sure if I wired it wrong, now when I start the van it makes a loud noise, like something is hitting something else. I move the wire...

sounds like your starter gear may be hitting the flexiplate but that should not effect the trans.
There may be a safety lock on your gearshift under the console that is faulty, it should disengage when the ignition key is turned on, my brother in law had this problem with his new car, I removed it all together as it was more trouble than it was worth
