SOURCE: 1999 Dodge Intrepid Dies while driving and sometimes won't start

I could very well be the TPS throttle position sensor acting up. I had a very similar situation on a 99 Concorde with the same engine in it in my shop today. Go to a shop that is able to do a data stream on the engine. What it is, is they hook up a scanner and have the ability to watch all the sensors as the car starts/runs.

SOURCE: 97 dodge Intrepid with Cooling Problem

If you've already tested the stat by placing it in very hot water to verify that it does open ,then it might be that the high pressure reservoir cap leaks. With the engine cold, check the under side of the cap for cracks in its gasket . My 3.5L had a frozen stat and a leaking cap at the same time however the cap problem wasn't evident until I replaced the stat. By the way - It's always a good idea to test new thermostats before installing them . I had to learn that the hard way.

SOURCE: My 97 dodge intrepid 3.5L is running hot.

Check the connection betwteen the temp sensor, located on the block and check your fuses/relays. It may help if you pull and reseat each fuse. This is free and saves a lot of headache swapping out parts.

SOURCE: 1996 dodge intrepid runs fine but runs rough some

Check the wiring first off. Check anything to do with the engine sensors, look over the wires that lead up to the plugs. If you find any that are oily or dirty, pull the plug and clean it out. You might just try generally detailing your engine as well. The second thing to check off the list is vacuum lines, give them a good looking over for cracks.

Pulled up to stop sign and the car just quit and it won't start

First check the power cables under the hood on the passenger side firewall these have a nasty habit of pulling free by getting caught on the tie rods this causes the car to immediately die, the fix is: use a zip tie to hold them up off the tie rods if that isn't it then: check the ignition module with a testlight to see if you have power when the key is on
