How do i get to the flywheel bolts? i need to tighten a bolt.

There should be an access cover on the bottom of the bell housing

Why do you think that???? auto or manual trans? the auto torque converter bolts may be through a cover plate, but most likely you will need to remove the starter to access them. Th eflywheel bolts holing ot to the crankshafr, the trans will have to be removed. very unusual either way.

What are the tightening torques of all clutch plate pressure plate flywheel bolts of 2279cc slant engine vauxhalls


I have some original manuals for the model somewhere and the Kent-Moore service tool for adjusting the valve clearances. There isn't much information in my general data book but the flywheel bolts are 66 Nm.

The clutch cover bolts do have a torque value but I don't have it to hand and have never used it or heard of anyone using it. Good sense will suffice.
The important thing is to tighten the cover bolts a little at a time evenly until tension is felt and then it is sufficient to "knip" them a little further. There should be a spring washer under each cover bolt head and it is important they and the bolts are all identical

  • Use new bolts and tighten as follows:

you need first wipe clean fly wheel and pressure plate machined surface clean then you need to install position clutch disc and pressure plate with clutch held in place with alignment tool. tighten pressure plate to flywheel bolts only finger tight.working around pressure plate.center the clutch disc by ensuring the alignment tool is through the splined hub and into the recess in the crankshaft.wiggle tool up down or side to side as needed to bottom tool.tighten the pressure plate to flywheel bolts a little at a time working in a crisscross pattern to prevent distortion of the cover.after all bolts snug tight tighten then torque bolts 30 ft lbs for V8 if engine V6 torque bolts 15 ft lbs.be sure to use high temperature grease on release bearing inner groove place grease on transaxle input shaft bearing retainer.

TRANSMISSION FLYWHEEL HAS TO ALIGN CORRECTLY.MAKE SURE FLYWHEEL IS IN THE ALIGNMENT DOWEL BOLTS TIGHTEN IN SEQUENCE IF NOT FLYWHEEL THATS NOT ALIGN CORRECTLY WHEN YOU TIGHTEN IT UP IN A BIND FLYWHEEL WILL CRACK.MAKE SURE FLYWHEEL TORQUE IS 59 FT LBS FOR THE 4.0 ENGINE.THE 5.0 ENGINE FLYWHEEL BOLTS TORQUE IS 75 - 85 FT LBS.IF OVER TIGHTEN FLYWHEEL IT WILL CRACK IT.

Installation
  1. NOTE: Special bolts are used for flywheel installation. Do not use standard bolts.
    Install the flywheel.
    • Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in two stages.
    • Stage 1: Tighten the bolts to 13 Nm (10 lb-ft).
    • Stage 2: Tighten the bolts to 71 Nm (52 lb-ft).

Need a copy of the manual pages, showing how to replace the clutch


Removal & Installation To Remove:
  1. Remove the transmission.
  2. Install a flywheel locking tool.
  3. Remove the pressure plate mounting bolts from the flywheel.
  4. Remove the pressure plate and clutch disc.
To Install:
  1. Insert a clutch disc alignment tool through the disc splines and into the flywheel pilot bearing. Pressure plate balance mark location subaru-07-00-6722.gif

  2. Install the pressure plate on the flywheel with a gap of 120° or more between the "0" balance marks on the flywheel and pressure plate. Hand tighten the pressure plate mounting bolts.
  3. Tighten the pressure plate mounting bolts using a crisscross pattern 12 ft-lb (16 Nm).
  4. Remove the clutch disc alignment tool.
  5. Install the transmission.

Bolt torque specs for flywheel, pressure plate, bell housing bolts for 97 Nissan maxima


1.Flywheel - 61 to 69 Foot Pounds
2.Pressure Plate - 25 to 33 Foot Pounds
3.Bell Housing - No specs found. I would say 25 to 35 foot pounds should be sufficient.

Bolts clean on ->flywheel to crank, ->pressure plate to flywheel, and ->bell housing to back of engine, I would use TWO drops of Loctite Red threadlocker, on ALL of these bolts.

Hope you have an alignment tool for your clutch disk when you install it. Auto parts stores sell the plastic one's cheap! Saves a LOT of headaches!

Tighten the pressure plate EVENLY! Snug the bolts down until they just TOUCH, then go in a criss-cross pattern when tightening. Do the tightening in incremental stages! You turn one bolt one thread, you go across to the opposite side, and turn that bolt one thread. Keep criss-crossing so the pressure plate goes down EVENLY. (YES, it's a pain in the keister!)

If NOT, you'll have a warped pressure plate, and it will be junk!

Removal & Installation
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the transaxle.
  4. Gradually loosen the clutch pressure plate bolts, in a crisscross pattern. Support the pressure plate and remove the bolts. Remove the pressure plate and clutch disc.
  5. Inspect the pilot bearing. If it is worn or damaged and does not turn easily by hand, remove it using a puller/slide hammer.
  6. Check the flywheel surface for scoring, cracks or burning and machine or replace, as necessary.
  7. Install a flywheel holder to keep the flywheel from turning. Loosen the flywheel bolts evenly and gradually in a crisscross pattern. Remove the flywheel.
  8. Inspect the clutch release bearing for wear. Replace it if it sticks or does not turn easily.
  9. Inspect the release fork for wear or damage and replace as necessary.

  1. Lubricate the release fork fingers and pivot with molybdenum grease and install in the release fork boot.
  2. Install the clutch release bearing on the release fork.
  3. Install a new pilot bearing in the flywheel, if removed.
  4. Be sure the flywheel mounting surface and the crankshaft or eccentric shaft mounting surfaces are clean. Remove any old sealant from the flywheel bolt hole threads and the flywheel bolts.
  5. Install the flywheel.
  6. Apply sealant to the flywheel bolt threads and install them hand-tight. Install the flywheel holding tool. Tighten the bolts, in a crisscross pattern, to 71–76 ft. lbs. (96–103 Nm).
  7. Apply a small amount of molybdenum grease to the clutch disc splines and install the clutch disc on the flywheel, spring side toward the transaxle. Install a suitable alignment tool in the pilot bearing to position the clutch disc.
  8. Install the clutch pressure plate, aligning the dowel holes with the flywheel dowels.
  9. Install the pressure plate bolts and gradually tighten, in a crisscross pattern to 20 ft. lbs. (26 Nm). Remove the alignment tool.
  10. Install the transaxle.

Head bolts torque settings


According to my haynes manual for G-S reg, 1989-1998 it goes as follows,
Stage 1:- Tighten all bolts by hand until bolt heads just contact cyl. head.
Stage 2:-Tighten all bolts to 40Nm or 30lb ft.
Stage 3:-Angle tighten all bolts a further 60 degrees.
Stage 4:-Angle tighten all bolts again a further 60 degrees.
Stage 5:- M12 x 140mm bolts ONLY angle tighten a further 20 degrees.
Hope this helps everyone, sorry it seems longwinded but that is how it's written in the manual.
