hey it sounds like your mass air flow sensor went bad unplug the mass air flow sensor and see if it stops stalling you sould be able to stay driving with it unpluged but itll use up gas if its making a knocking sound in your engine a liffter might of blew or like they said a fuel pump but it sounds to me like your mass air flow sensor went bad it should be located by your intake

Fuel filter most likely

Right on! Does sound like a bad fuel filter. When driving fuel raises in filter, When stopped the dirt etc, settles to bottom plugging up the filter, so no fuel. God-Bless!

I had a car 1990 Lumina that stalled when you stopped. It turned out to be the overdrive solenoid sticking. So it was like leaving a manual in gear when you stopped.

Why does my pontiac stall out when I am slowing down to stop?

Probably need to set the idle a bit higher. That keeps the RPM of the motor high enough that it won't stall when you come to a stop.

Car wont stay running and run rough and exhaust smells. When i go fast it runs good but when i run it slow or stop for the light it runs ruff and then stalls...

There are many things that can cause this. The MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor may be dirty. A slight vacuum leak can cause low RPM stumble (check with a vacuum gauge). There are other possibilities such as weak ignition coils or a low voltage condition in the ignition system.

Good luck from Detroit, MI.

CAR RUNS GREAT, STARTED DIEING WHEN A/C WAS TURNED ON, NOW A FEW DAYS LATER IT DIES EVEN WITHOUT A/C ON, RUNS BUT WILL NOT IDLE

CHECK IDLE SPEED SHOULD BE 650 - 850 RPM. IF IDLE TOO LOW AC WILL PUT DRAG SLOW DOWN ENGINE CAUSING ENGINE TO STALL IF IDLE SPEED IS TOO LOW.

99 Pontiac Grand Prix. When car slows down or

There are SO many things that could be to blame, such as a relay sticking in the Engine Management System, which controls fuel cut-off on deceleration, for example.

Have you changed the fuel filter yet?
If it's the original on a 99 model and a previous owner has run the tank dry, it will have sucked dirt into the filter.

Otherwise, the fuel pump may not be working efficiently.
Does the engine sound ok and maintain steady revs, around 850/900rpm when it's started up?

Grand voyager problems

I ran into this problem this past winter and after going threw everything I finally solved this problem by taking off the fast idle servo and cleaning behind it with solvant If it gunks up in their it cannot function properly causing it to stall when idiling or coming to a stop. Try this simple solution it will more than likely work for you and keep it from stalling.

i think your exhaust might have a leak which is heating up your oil when this happens the engine suffocates and wants to die.
